Here is a really good gift idea, and it hardly costs anything:
Get a nice, big photo album,
Get together all of the pictures you can, taken from the time she was born, and put in select photos. Leave space in the back, with a note that tells her that the empty space is for her to fill in,
My husband received this from his grandparents for his 18th birthday. When we decided to get married, I filled a few pages with photos of me growing up, and now we are filling them with ultrasound pictures and pictures of our kids. I think it's a great idea.

For someone at that age, you can never tell what to get them!!! But.. I think maybe getting her an AMEX gift card from local grocery store is a start. You decided how much you want to give.... and she can spend it anywhere on anything at anytime.... and if she wants, she can always add to the amount later! Just a thought.
Okay... alot of people might think that it's cheezy, but hey... worth the idea...

Your best bet is to ask her what she wants...Cant go wrong with that... and if you dont want to do that then try some up to date gadgets that teens use these days like a PSP or an Ipod ....If she loves to smell good or feel sexy then try Victorias secret perfume or lotions or Bath and Body works..some scented candles..... or make up a gift basket yourself.... buy a cheap basket at the dollar store and fill it with goodies and use some colorfull wrap and bows.... good luck

I think a trip with you and a couple of friends to either Europe or a cruise. That kind of gift will last forever because of the experiences she will live. My granparents gave me a trip to Europe when I turn 15 and it was the most beautiful thing they did for me. It help me to understand other cultures and appreciate mine!!!!

Well, pearls are always nice to have b/c you can wear them with anything. But if she isn't in to jewelry (and you have a lot of spare time), make her a scrapbook of her life and get other family members to help- it might be fun and I'm sure she'll enjoy it!I got one for my 16th bday and i adore it!

You can never go wrong with jewelry. Unless you know her ring size avoid rings. but a pretty bracelet or necklace will never fail to put a smile on any girls face.

A nice gift certificate to a place she really enjoys. Or money. That way she gets what she really wants.

Why don't you just ask her what it is that she would like for her birthday, that way you don't have to guess and she can get something she really wants.
