I am in a heated debate with the wife, because i want to get tiki statues for our Tiki decorated back yard, we have a bamboo gazebo, tiki bar, tiki bamboo fire bowl, furniture, ...... you get the point. She says that getting a tiki character(statue), is portraying a false god, and that it is VERY un-christian. From a Christian religion stand point is it wrong to get tiki statues, becuase that is praising a "False God" or Different God" other than Jesus Christ. Please give me details so i can justify to her why it is ok, or so that i can understand why it's not!

Plain and simple. You're headed for a divorce. It's never the big ones like foolin' around or wife beating. It's always the pillows on the couch that you aren't allowed to sit on that destroy a marriage.

Sorry to sound so trite, but this is all a basis for the control issue.

If it is for decoration then I see no problem. You are not going out there worshiping the TIKIs are you? lol God says not to worship any graven images, aren't pictures graven images as well? what about the television? Good luck.

"thou shalt have no graven images" - doesn't say anything about intentions. The very possession of them is a sin.

Imagine you go to your friend's house and he has a picture above his fireplace of someone who TRIED TO KILL YOU or some horrible thing that makes you wonder WHY IN THE WORLD would he put something so bad up in his house? Didn't he think how it might affect YOUR relationship as a friend with him? How close to him would you feel after you saw that??!

Maybe not the best example, but I hope you see my point. God is angered by the evil or worship to anyone but him and having it in your house is a show of support or at least indifference to it.

And, also, advice to both of you in the marriage, for this and future situations - if EITHER ONE OF YOU is vehemently opposed to doing something - then DO NOT DO IT. Period. (which sounds like what you are doing by looking into this matter before going forward with it - good for you)

the bible also speaks of keeping the peace and getting along with others --- pass on the tiki statues, and allow peace to reign in your home --- it ain't worth all the arguments--- and tension
