If you ask the question, "what is the point of this war?" then obviously you don't understand it or you wouldn't need to ask. So having established that you don't know, how can you label it as "stupid". Are you in the habit of calling things you don't understand stupid? Is calculus stupid? One senses that you likely would never see a good reason to fight a war. If that had been the position of those before you, then you probably wouldn't be able to even ask this question right now. The point is we eliminated the regime of a ruthless dictator and are helping a new democracy become stable and independent. We have taken a war against terrorist acts committed in the U.S. and around the world to the terrorists own backyard. We are demonstrating to all concerned that we are not going to permit these acts to continue and that we will continue to attack them where they live until those offering them refuge decide it is not in their best interest to do so. That is the point.

frofus show some documentation that the U.S. was ever charged with crimes against humanity in any court for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I am sure many South Koreans were glad we fought in Korea. Anyone with any sense especially today would be glad that the same idiot running North Korea today isn't running both Koreas. Did it ever occur to you that our willingness to fight in Vietnam may very well have shown the Soviet Union and China our willingness to fight against communist expansion? But for people like you during Vietnam the war may have been much more effective in reaching that aim. My patriotism isn't blind and I'm standing just fine thank you. Apparently you stand against this country so it's not surprising you would support illegal aliens. So my suggestion to you would be that YOU move to Mexico and stand with them there.

I'm sure you'll be told by a lot of people on here that this war is about oil. I'm still not clear what the logic is behind that kind of thinking, but that is what some believe.
Saddam Hussein is an evil, evil person who was running his country out of fear. If you didn't agree with him, you die. He was personally behind the executions of innocent Iraqi men, women and children. The people in Iraq deserve better, and America is trying to give that to them.
I realize how many people have died in this war, but if someone doesn't step in and take people like Saddam out of power, it will sooner or later put everyone in the world at risk. Saddam is a Modern Day Hitler.

This question is asked again, and again, and again...so it is obviously a good one. "What is the point of this stupid (meaningless) war?"

Because Bin Laden attacked America and he has ties to Saddam (Iraq). No, there is not a shred of evidence to even slightly make that connection. Bin Laden is Saudi Arabian, and he does have ties to that country. Yet, our administration did nothing to or towards that country, but when they do.

The point of the war was to make this world a safer place. No, I'm almost positive there was a terrorist attack in London after this war began. This war has not decreased, or halted the occurrence of terrorism, it has only increased it.

We went over there to stop Saddam for using his Weapons of Mass Destruction. Yet, don't we have to find them before we can stop him from using them? I mean, don't they have to exist before he can use them. I heard we also went over there because Saddam was going to kill Santa. We're still looking for him as well.

The weirdest thing about all of this is we have the same exact situation in North Korea. Both countries have a "mad man", both countries have/had WMDs, both countries are terrorists havens. Yet (with North Korea), we're just yakking it up, making idle threats, and sitting on our hands. While if our administration was righteous about their terrorism rhetoric, we should be over THERE making the world a safer place. Don't get me wrong though, I believe the way our administration is treating NK, is the same way they should have treated Iraq. I don't think any Americans have died in this North Korean conflict.

With all that it makes me wonder, "What is the point of this stupid war?"

There is always more than one side to a story. Our reasons for fighting are the same as theirs. What is of consequence of course is who wins. Serbian rebels attacked and successfully assassinated a prominent member of the Austrian royal family. Germany supported Austria in finding justice. Funny how the US, France, England, Russia all went against Germany in that war-protecting terrorists. Hussein had a point, he was elected by a majority-what percentage of the population elected bush? Furthermore, (before you get into who could vote) remember that only recently in history have voting rights been granted to most of the population in this country (women, minorities) and no one had a problem with those presidents even though atrocities were committed in this country by their direction (ever play cowboys and indians?). This war is opening a huge can of worms by attacking the soverignty of heads of state. You can't force a country to be governed by who you want (Iran 1979). You can't support the international court system only when it benefits you (America doesn't recognize the validity of the courts-see Hiroshima and Nagasaki in crimes against humanity). Not every war is looked upon like WW2. How many people say "Thank God we went into Korea," or "Where would the world be if we hadn't been in Vietnam". You people and your blind patriotism goes against everything this country was founded upon. If you need me to explain it to you, I hope your asses are the ones deported to Mexico. At least "illegal" immigrants stand for something.

Think about this... if we dont fight the war over there - it would just end up over here. Be thankful for now.

Thankful that our wonderful American Soldiers are fighting for your safety.

People didnt see a point to WWII - but, looking back - look at all the people we helped free.

Sometimes we dont understand things right away, sometimes we cannot know everything - as if our government told us EVERYTHING that was going on; it could risk our secruity.

Al-Queada declared war on us many years ago. Bin Laden planned and successfully carried out several terrorist acts before 9/11. Today in Iraq we have been fighting Al-Queada as evidence by the recent killing of their leader in Iraq. All you need to know is that Al-Queada hates us, hated us, and will hate us. Nothing we could do could stop them from hating us. They will do anything they can to kill us, they have stated this repeatedly. We must hunt them down and kill them first. They are cowardly and evil and will stop at nothing, even killing Innocent men, women and children, as on 9/11.

The point of this war is to make the world a safer place for idiots like you. I'm glad we have a military and Commander and Chief that are willing to fight and die for people like you that don't deserve it.

no, there is never any point to war. violence begets violence. you cannot abolish hatred and anger with more of the same. if history has taught us anything it is that we keep reliving the past... eventually people may come up with SOME way to avoid the atrocity of war, but until then we'll just keep killing one another. for no reason other than ignorance and intolerance.

there is not point what so ever. a real man or a real soldier would sit down and have a discussion about how to prevent fighting so in the end everyone is happy.
