John 3:16
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John 3:16 (chapter 3, verse 16 of the Gospel of John) is one of the most widely quoted verses from the Christian Bible. It has been called the "Bible in a nutshell" because it is considered a summary of some of the most central doctrines of traditional Christianity:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God so loved the world... - God is a God of love and this love motivates his action in the rest of the verse
...that he gave... - there was God giving something, his son as a sacrifice
...his only begotten[1] Son... - the human Jesus of Nazareth is also the Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity
...that whosoever... - that salvation is open to all who will believe
...believeth... - being saved is based on belief or faith, rather than based on human works.
...in him... - the belief being in Jesus, the Saviour
...should not perish... - implies the fate of those who do not believe, that is the doctrine of hell
...but have everlasting life. - shows the reward of those who believe, that is the doctrine of heaven
Yes others have given their children for less ..... but not as an important a reason...

Fathers gave their sons away not to save the world that would eventually split and turn against him. God love is beyond compare and the death that Jesus face was no ordinary death - he died for the world. You cannot comprehend that until you seek diligently what this really means by studying the Bible with the guide of the Holy Spirit.
If you understand what is at stake you wouldn't even die to save yoruself - that is why God had to send his son.
All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. (Rev. 12:4-9; Isa. 14:12-14; Eze. 28:12-18; Gen. 3; Rom. 1:19-32; 5:12-21; 8:19-22; Gen. 6-8; 2 Peter 3:6; 1 Cor. 4:9; Heb. 1:14.)

John 3:16 is almost incomplete until you read John 3:17 "For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him.

What did they give their children for? Money? Self?
God gave his only begotten Son, that WE may have life. He wants his creation given over to death no more. Sin separates us. Jesus is the bridge. He was sinless - so only he could free us. Only the person out of the jail can unlock the key.

Now, that is not true, No father has given their child for the whole world. When young men go the army or whay so ever, they made their own decisions, their father's did not force them, and They did not know there was going to be war. After they sing in, they have no choice but to work for the government. Jesus had a choice, he could had said no, but since He loved the world, which is us, he decided to die and save us. But if soldiers had a choice, they wont go to war.

That verse just sums up the most of any one verse I know. Not very many fathers have given up a son just because they loved someone else. Most were forced through poverty or hate to give up their children not love. You have to remember God has every thing lacks for nothing, it is us that lack, it is us that need.

I still find it hard to believe that god came down to earth and had sex with Mary to have a little boy. Didn't the Greek and Roman gods do this, too. I'll bet you that Mary had sex with one of the occupying Roman soldiers out of wedlock and then, when she found out she was pregnant said "God did it!" If she had said the devil did it she would have been stoned to death. The only good person in this story is Joseph who was a real man and got her out of Dodge so she wouldn't be killed after everyone recovered from their shock and realized she was going to have a bastard child. Joseph was truly the honorable person in this whole fable.

Basically unlike man God gave his son to help all humanity. He died for our sins so we would not have to sacrifice that which we do not have to save our soul. No man on earth has given his only son to save the entire world from eternal damnation. Jesus died so that we may go to heaven just by asking God to forgives us of our sins.
