it is really up to the school or school district when to begin classes....but the earlier you start classes the earlier you get to go on x-mas break, spring break, and summer vacation....schools are limited to how many days are in a semester, so enjoy your early break times

i agree with mike.. it is up to the school district and how you get all the days you are off from school. my school starts aug.14. and get out i think may 25 or some day close to that. when i was in elementary(k-3) school started in september and ended in june. that sucked. i like how it is now august-may... i'm in colorado... i think some school districts in colorado start in september and end in june

Ours start on August 7th this year, but we get out in early May. They do this because we live in Ky in the mountains and we have to allow for many snow days.
