I know it is not really answering the question about the two cd's but you could also import the movie into a movie creation software and then downgrade the quality slightly or remove some excess audio features, (such as lower sound quality from stereo to mono) and then re-encode it. It may take some trial and error but then you can get it onto 650mb and keep file format.
Just thought I would add my advice :-)

Why don't you turn it into a ZIP file which will compress it and allow it to fit on 1 CD? If it is a movie try DVD shrink.

The files shouldn't get corrupted if you use WinRAR. If still they are getting corrupted, try using WinZIP or WinACE. Or try unsing UHARC. I am sure it wont get corrupted if you use UHARC.
And I suggest that you buy a 1GB USB flash drive. Its very useful to carry files larger than 700MB.

You can use a movie editor and split the file into two files.
I usually use TMPGEnc to split my mpegs or avi's into two.
