The reading of any books or newspapers on a regular basis will improve your reading. If your English skills are particularly poor, maybe you could start off on some simple children's stories and build up. Try www.bitesize.com, this is a very good education site, with English comprehensions and tests, with answers. Good luck X

I wouldn't go for one book, you should get an Oxford English Dictionary, a Thesaurus, and a contemporary novel (in English). Or if you can't get any of those, try Victoria Beckhams' autobiography.

i'm from another country, too, and my mother struggled learning english. watching tv helped her with her english (she watched movies like anne of green gables) and TV also helped many other people we know. (I know this sounds odd, but it really does work). I hope your english improves...best of luck.
