I adopted 2 kittens over the weekend. The little boy is kind of scrawny, so I've been kind of babying him. For the last 2 days, he's been sneezing a lot and coughing hard, almost to the point of puking.
My mom thinks Grim may be having issues with our dog's flea drops. We had put them on her about 3 days ago, and it does have a rather strong smell.
Grim's sister doesn't seem to have any problem with the smell coming from the pooch, though. Any idea what's up with him? (A vet trip is planned for this weekend)

I didn't put the dog's drops on Grim. We have a dog and 2 cats now. The dog, Shadow, had drops put on her. The kittens just keep trying to play by her.

I will start off by saying thanks of adpoting two great kittens. make sure you bring up the sneezing and the coughing at the vets office...could be a uri (upper respitory infection). also talk to your vet about possibilities of feline herpes and asthma. my oliver has had many URI's even pneumonia before we figured it to be Feline herpes. the wheezing may indicate URI, Pneumonia or Asthma.

Good luck!

Kitten Coughing

Vet is a good idea. My kitten had the exact same thing after we adopted her from the shelter. She would sneeze so many times in a row, I didn't know if she'd ever stop. The vet said she had an upper respiratory infection or "kennel cough". They prescribed antibiotics that we had to keep in the fridge and administer to her via dropper twice a day for 7 days. They also gave us eye drops to put in her eyes twice a day for seven days. After she had her medicine she was MUCH better, but she also got my other cat sick too so we had to go through it all over again. So keep in mind that it might be contagious.

Also, I'm pretty sure you can't use flea drops of any kind for kittens under 8 weeks. Then they have flea drops for kittens under 6 months. :)

yeah, you really shouldn't use dog flea drops on a kitten. They have special things for them. Either way, if the little guy doesn't get worse, the vet will give him some throat drops or something. Bring the drops you used with you to the vet, in case they need to make another diagnosis. If you ever again do have a kitten with fleas, bear in mind that not all flea medications are the same, and that some are not designed for younger animals. It won't kill them, but it won't do them any good either.

Please dont do anything other than what your vet tells you to do. He/she didnt go through SIX years of medical school for nothing! Vets know what they're talking about. And most likely your new kitty just had a little cold, and the antibiotics will fix that right up. Make sure you give him the full 10-days worth, dont stop them just because he stops sneezing/coughing. Listen to your vet, and your kitty will be fine =)

It's probably some kind of upper respiratory infection. It may not be serious but it might be lethal. A kitten can die of a "cold."

You need to get that kitty to a vet right now! You might find out that it's not too serious, but you might save kitty's life. Consider this an emergency and get to a vet today!

The cat could just be sick. Like a cold which is actually dangerous for them because they can die from it. My friends just lost one of his cats 2 months ago because she was sneezing and coughing. He thought it was gonna have a hairball or throw up so he would put it ouside. Then one night when i left his house and got home at 2 am he called me and sed he found the cat in his backyard on the floor dead and cold as ice. : ( So i hope ur cat gets better.

It could just have alergies to the medicine. I suggest that you switch flea drop medicine so you aren't putting you kitten at risk. He could also be sick, or abused, or anything could have happed to him.
