If you were given a pill that would show you, once and for all, the truth about the universe, no matter how distasteful it might be for you. Would you take it?

For christians, that means you would know, without a shadow of a doubt that there is no god, and that evolution is the process of how life changed on this planet.

For Atheists, that means you would know that god exists and created everything and that life was created and designed, not evolved.

Would you take the pill?

I for one answer; yes. And I am a dyed in the wool Atheist. Knowledge and proof are foremost in my mind so to have absolute knowledge of the origin of the world would be a great thing.

No matter if you are a christian or a atheist, people are curious and would take the pill to show you the reality, so that mean that I would take the magic pill. As a christian, if I found out that God doesnt exist, I guess would be dissapointed and question many things that have happened in my life. However, the reality is, that since their is no magic pill, we can never know for sure. I certainly, without a doubt believe there is a God, even before I became a christian. I mean, there has to be something greated than this world right? If there wasnt, I dont think that there wouldnt be any hope, faith, love, etc....in any way.

One of the most profound things ever uttered was by one of history's famous bad guys, Pontius Pilate - "What is truth?"

Too many people have taken socratic dialogue and platonic argument to an excessive an extreme - the idea that if you simply go far enough down the deductive road, there is some master truth, the "theory of everything" as Einstein once called it (although he was speaking of a more concrete theory he hoped to develop that would unite quantum mechanics and relativity-based physics.)

However, one possibility you do not consider is that there simply may not be a "theory of everything" - a one definitive truth of the universe in which all can be understood and comprehended in a few simple words or formulas.

I'd take your theoretical matrix pill - but I'd take it with the expectation, really, of knowing no more coming out of it than I did going in. Any wise person knows that the more you know, the more you realize you don't know. Knowing the "truth about the universe" would likely do no more than give you a knowledge of limited scope, one raising an infinite number of questions about all the strange things you perceived at the edge of your new knowledge....

Absolutely. Knowing the truth is all I need. Right now, god the bible and creation don't feel like the truth to me so I go with something else. However, if a pill would show me they were true, I would definitely take it.

Wow, I see so many Christians mis reading the question. Christians he said if you took the pill you'd realize you were WRONG about god and evolution is the correct way life evolved. Not suddenly if you take the pill you prove to everyone you were right all along. Once again we see that they only read the parts that they care to.

Absolutely! I am an athiest because I don''t have proof of existance. This question is the most mysterious question to answer. I would take the pill. (Now my answer isnt very athiest of me is it?)

After note: I believe I already know the answer (atheist) but there is so much about the universe we still don't understand. Perhaps this pill could offer the answer to other questions. Ah! Who but only a being far more powerful than man could even offer such a prize? I'm sorry. I am having too much fun with this question...

Is it the red pill or the blue pill?

Yes, I would take it. I am a Christian, but I respect Atheists. Sounds contradictory, I know, but I understand the need some people have to see clear evidence in order to believe. Christianity is based on faith. To have proof would be nice, assuming it is the actual truth.

By the way, a lot of Christians are probably going to tell you the pill is made by Satan if it doesn't reveal their version of "the truth".

I asked this question two weeks and the one answer that blew me away was no, that we need to use the tools of science to discover the true nature of the universe.

As for the God issue, I'm right now in the middle of Chapter 35 of the New King James version of the Bible I bought Monday, and its like reading about old friends, Abraham, Issac, Achielles (who also is a mythology). It just doesn't speak to me or my heart that there is such a mechanism as God at the beginning of the universe.

So no I wouldn't take that pill, I'd want to keep reading about God when I feel the need to, and keep reading discover magazine when I get it in the mail.

Yes, why wouldn't I? I'd like to know the truth once and for all.

But then again, who would believe me once the effects of the pill wore off? I'd probably just become another crazy religious (hopefully athiest) zealot. Isn't that the way every other religion has started? Some crazy realization about the way the world really is?

No, not at all. How would I survive not learning? It would be taking the mindless way out of existence. I find that I need to learn, question, ask, search and seek. Forever remaining "childlike." I feel so sorry for closed minded individuals who feel a pill would fix everything. Why live if that were the case? To constantly learn is the primary function of existence.

Any answer that still kept one alive would not result in certainty. Doubt existed in the minds of the apostles, in Moses, in Abraham, and on and on even though they saw God as much as anyone.

The pill exists already. It's called death.

some Christians surely say that, yet i recognize maximum do no longer. that's those decide on few notwithstanding that reason issues by using their immaturity. enable me to attempt to connect the answer that a fellow atheist gave, what ought to were reported is that once someone of yet another faith, be it christian or the different faith, let us know we are able to in basic terms be kept from eternal damnation if we repent of pray for god's forgiveness. This notwithstanding meant with solid intentions finally ends up in us getting insult, we being advised many times that our lifestyle is incorrect. I being atheist from start get disenchanted each and every now and then even as immature human beings insult how i stay my existence. As you ought to or received't get if I or some different person were to insult you. In precis by attempting to keep us you push us further away, instead it should be extra constructive to understand us and/or enable us be ourselves. thanks for listening to me out.
