I would recommend that you volunteer or foster with a great rescue in your area. Try to learn more about the financial/managerial end of rescuing. That way, when you're older, you'll have a great idea of everything you need to do to set up a non-profit organization for tax purposes, how to raise money, use it effectively and efficiently, and all about the liability and insurance issues involved in dog rescue. I have done some rescue myself, but I get worried sometimes with the legality of things. What if one of my rescue dogs bit another dog...or worse, a person? Who pays for the medical bills if I have no liability insurance or contracts limiting liability? Who pays for vet bills if the dog is in foster care and gets badly injured due to a foster's negligence? What happens if someone adopts a dog and then changes their mind later own the road? Do I have any recourse against an adoptive owner or foster who does wrong by the dog- either by mistreatment, negligence, or abandonment? There are a lot of things to think about, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Spend some years getting very involved with a local rescue that has non-for-profit status and learn all you can. Then, when you are ready to take on the responsibility, see how you can improve upon what they do for your own organization. ANd thanks so much on behalf of all the unloved ones!

when working with rescue work there is always a need to raise funds. It is a great dream to save all homeless dogs, but sadly not all can be saved. Being so young I would say help out your local shelters and shadow the adults there and learn from them over the next several years. Then when you get near graduating you can look at all you learned from the shelters you helped at and contunue with your dream.

By also helping out other shelters you can help train the canines that come in so that they are better able to be adopted. A trained dog is always going to get a second look. You can also learn from the shelters why some of the canines have to be put down. LIke sometimes they are so ill that it is better to let them rest or they are too aggressive to risk adopting out because if they do and the dog is aggressive it comes back to the shelter as their fault.

I hope this helps you out.

You can raise money as the Spots Foundation and then donate it to local shelters. You could also raise money to help low income people pay for vet care and spaying and neutering. You can raise money and spread awareness through established organizations. Maybe you could organize kids your age to help animals in shelters. They usually need people to walk the animals, clean the shelters and to socialize them so that they are ready for adoption. That way, you don't have to ALWAYS be working for the animals in case you get busy with school or trips or whatever, but you can still make a huge impact. Don't let negative people interfere with your goals. Right now, you should work hard in school so that you can go to college and find an occupation that will allow you to make a big difference in the lives of animals. Good luck!!!

I commend you for your efforts and your love of animals. You have a lot of school ahead of you and you need to concentrate on the task at hand. I would work with other established shelters because you both have the same goal. Also you can experience several different shelters and study each model, this will help you decide what works best and what to incorporate into your shelter when you decide to do rescue full time.

Hey there! Wow, i'm so impressed by what you want to do! =) I would have your mom or dad contact a news station with your story, they like those good feeling stories now days, especially with all the violence on the war. They may come out and interview you and your friends and who knows, maybe you can set up a checking account at a bank (they may even give you a free checking account if it is non-profit) especially geared toward your rescue society and people can phone the bank and make donations that way. Good luck and I hope you can raise enough money! =)

How wonderful to see a kid with such a good heart! You should look into helping out at shelters. It takes some experience to know how to handle animals. You learn alot from others. Good luck and hugs.

Well, I'm a dog lover myself, so I say by all means, go for it! I'm going to be a freshman in highschool and if I'd been in your position in the 7th grade I know I would've done it. If that's your passion, don't let anything hold you back.

Do what you can. Dont overextend yourself, but dont give up either. If you enjoy doing it, and are good at it, then continue...it dosent matter how 'big' you are, or what other people say. I say "GOOD WORK" I wish I could do something like that. If you cant do it on your own, help other shelter...either way you are helping the animals out there that need you. :)
good work!

if u saved some other dogs then u should probably go on and save more. and i also think u could go to other shelters and help. if u seriously want to help dogs then u could foster puppies that are too young to be adopted.

i'm sure it's difficult to do that and go to school. it might be easier to help an already established group raise money and then start your own after school.
