My grandparents come from all corners of the world, Asia, Europe, South Africa. They speak English but with all kinds of accent and I also can mimic all of them pretty well. I'm very proud with that special ability. It saddens me to hear someone say that to us.

Everyone has an accent; it's just that we all have different ones. If someone thinks that somebody doesn't have an accent, it just means that the listener is used to the speaker's accent. This person apparently isn't aware of how language works.

If the person doesn't have any friends that speak with accents other than the one the person is used to, he/she must either have very few friends (as mentioned by the previous answerer) and/or have friends only from a familiar culture. What a shame either way.

An accent does not necessarily mean you don't know the language.

English can be correctly spoken with an accent. For example, British people have marked accents, and there are also Southern, Midwestern, etc accents in the US. Even someone with a Spanish or French accent can speak correctly, although one probably can tell the person's not a native speaker.

Accents are relative to where you ARE...more than where you go...Americans don't have one unified accents! If you go to England, the same is true. There are people who specialize in determining your regional origin based on what accent you have. I have a good ear for accents and sometimes 'throw' people off by affecting a different accent than normal (for me). So, what I think this person is saying is that none of his/her friends is from a non-local region as an English-speaker. However, since the reflexive case is used here, is hard to determine who is the actor and what is the action in this statement.

If a person here in the United States speaks english with an accent, then he should be left alone because they are trying to learn the language, so i applaud them.

It means that this person lives a sad existence where he / she has not travelled beyond his / her town or city. The only accents they hear are on TV. What a boring existence. You are lucky to be exposed to so many different cultures.

no one can speak without an accent, it's impossible. really, it's just they can't hear their own accent, and the people around them have the same accent.
