Most former British colonies drive on the left. In South East Asia, almost all the countries drive on the left....malaysia, singapore etc.

Well, an explanation I heard BUT UNSURE IF IT IS TRUE, is that the British wanted to differenciate themselves from the Americans? Since it was them who introduced motor vehicles to SE Asia, cars drive on the left there too.

Just Adding on, in Singapore, most Road Signs are of british style wheras in malaysia, though formerly british, road signs are both American and British

Only the former British Empire: Japan, India, GB. I'm surprised Canada doesn't.

The most satisfying answer of why America drives on the right was explained to me so that the early Americans could piss off their British overlords should they meet on the same road.

The Roman war chariots had the driver on the left side of the cart to protect their commanders' heart. And, the practice of a boat having the steering wheel on the right comes from the dominate navy ... His Majesty's Royal Navy. On a boat it makes sense. The port (or left) side of a boat is the side that docks against the wharf.
