Generally if the cat is a pet there is probably a local ordinance that requires pet animals (not just dogs as most think) to be on a leash or confined to a yard. If the cat is wild animal control is probably looking for it anyway. So you won't get in any legal trouble for hitting a cat while driving, but it's still traumatic both for you and whoever the animal belonged to. I'd stop depending on the situation if possible.

Well if you hit a cat. what your suposed to do by law is im pretty sure try to find the owner (if you are near houses go to a few of them and ask them if they own a ____ colored cat) and if they do then you tell them what happened, and if their are no houses around what you do is get the F**K OUT OF THERE

try to find his or her mate and run it over too, you wouldnt want that cat to be lonely and besides he might have seen you run over the cat and call the police then you will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident .

If it has a collar and tags, then notify the owner or local animal shelter for help.

No collar or tags, keep driving.
