Revelations is always a funny topic when people bring up "the end of the world." I can't say that I know everything abou the bible, but what I've been taught about it thus far in my life is that Revelations is only a collection of letters sent by John, They were sent to other Followers of the Way, and coded in such a way that they would understand, but the Romans, who had no knowledge of their religion, wouldn't understand.
That being said, the anti-christ, the 666, refers to the emperor at the time (His names starts with a D, but escapes me at this moment.)

Here's a list of some confusing symbols we had to learn:
White----victory, joy
Gold----Royalty, splendor
Red----Blood, martyrdom, war
Sickly green----sickness
Scarlet----luxury
Black----death
crown----Royalty
Throne----Royalty
Long white robes----Priesthood
Gold (as a noun)----wealth, splendour
Precious jewels----Wealth and splendour (good or bad)
Palm----victory
Horns----Power
Eyes----Knowledge
Wings----Mobility
Lamb----Christ
dragon, serpant----Satan
Beast---- the Roman empire or emperor at the time
Lion----Majesty
Human----intelligence
Bull----Power
Eagle----Majesty, speed
Locusts and scorpians----Destruction
War horse----Military power
Altar----sacrifice
Walls---- the setting of limits
NUMBERS
Fractions---- imperfect, incompletion
3----divinity; superlative (3 times=infinity)
7----perfection, completion
6 (failure to reach 7)---- imperfection
10----perfection
12----Twelve tribles of Israel and/or perfection
12000---- 12 x 10 x 10 x10
144000---- 12 x 12 x 10 x 10 x 10
666----Symbol of imperfection, infinite 6.

These, of course, aren't all of the symbols and meanings, but some are still being deciphered. When reading Revelations, keep in mind these symbols and you'll read it in a different light. John wrote these letters took symbols from Daniel, Ezekiel, Psalms, Isaiah, or other scripture books, so the people he was preaching to would understand.
Read it through with these ideas and then ask yourself "What was John saying to those early Follwers struggling to be faithful to Jesus in a pagan world?" It all just adds up.
So, to make a long answer short, no. I'm not afraid of Revelations.

I will not live through the period of tribulation. It definitely will happen. Even now russia and red china are aligning togeter, as prophesied. Iran and china may be in agreement about nuclear weapons. That is also prophesied. The 3 will be together as there is an attack from the north (syria-iran-russia), and this coalition is forming now. It was to be preceeded by a time of terrorism and violence,. That has come to pass as well. Israel was to become a nation again. That happened in 1948. People in general were to turn against god, justifying the judgment. That has happened. Everything is ready.

Revelation 3:7-13 also indicates that those who have been faithful will avoid the time of trouble to come. In other places in scripture, the righteous were assured that they would go through tribulations and trials because of their faith. Those that have been tested, and tried, and found faithful, will not have to suffer twice. They will be spared. This is fair.

While a vision may initially be suspected of being of one's vivid imagination, it can be tested by seeing if it comes to pass. We have the signs now that what was described is starting to come to pass. The books of Matthew, and some of the prophets also describes the end times, and we are definitely in it. There are other prophesies that are being fulfilled. Another one is the Iraq war, because Babylon was destined to "fall twice."

So no, I would not be terrified, just I was not terrified by a recent tribulation of my own. God is my strength and protection. It does not matter what man does to me, because scripture says I will be persecuted, and at that time, I should rejoice in it, since it is the testing of my faith. I rejoice because God loves me and helps me through tribulations.

By the way, in my most recent tribulation, God gave me the victory, just as he will for those who put their trust in Him in the Great Tribulation.

I would be terrified! Understanding the symbology will reveal to mankind the horrors that will be unleashed upon all those that are left behind after the Rapture to suffer this judgment against us. Sad thing is, God's not the one unleashing these things upon us at first; He's merely removing His restraining influence from our sinful nature and allowing the maturations of our mind run loose! He does step in at the end and apply the coup de etat, but for the most part, we're destroying ourselves! Besides, John made a point at the beginning of Revelation that he was writing under the influence of the Holy Ghost when he said, "And I, John was IN THE SPIRIT on the Lord's day." There he is, worshipping on a deserted island that the Roman government used to send the worst of the worst to die for their crimes, yet John is WORSHIPPING God! These writings were not the maturations of a crazed, frightened mind, but they were of a sound mind that was instructed to "Write all that you SEE and HEAR for these things are TRUE and FAITHFUL!" He HAD to write it the way God commanded so that it would survive until the time that the generation would be living in which they would have the knowledge and understanding to unlock the symbolisms and preach the "end-time revivial" that will lead that last of the accepting souls into the Church. You see, John was living in a time when the most powerful thing on Earth was a volcano and the most advanced weapons were crude catapults. He was a first century man "catapulted" 20 centuries into the future and asked to return to his own time and write about what he saw! Can you imagine the magnitude of this duty, knowing God's intent for it's survival and understanding? God revealed these things to Daniel in the Old Testament, but told him, "Go thy way Daniel, seal these things up until the END OF THE AGE, when men would run to and fro and KNOWLEDGE WOULD INCREASE!" It's best that we be ready to go when the trumpet sounds for the Rapture, but knowing what we'd have to do to survive the Tribulation should set us to thinking about our preparations anyway!

Would I be terrified?-----well I am a pre-triber---I was hoping I would be gone and watching from above---but if I were here during the tribulation--I am sure I would be terrified but only for a moment because of my faith----Revelation states that those who do not take the mark and are stay steadfast until death then they will be in heaven---or something that effect.
As far as this really happening---I think it is only a matter of time..so be ready

I am not scared at all. I will be in Heaven already because God will take the believers home before the tribulation starts. During that time people will realize that everything is true and that is their last chance to become believers in Christ. Some will still make excuses, but some will finally realize. It will be a horrible time and far worse then anything that has ever happened on this earth so far.

I think that the Book of Revelations is going to be pretty dead on. I would like to think that I have lived my life in a way that I won't be here to see it, but if I am, I will take the teachings I have learned over the years and use them to see my way through the 7 years and be ready for when He returns.

I wouldn't worry about it. Did you know that adding Revelation to the canon was not by universal consensus? Many early Church Fathers, like Jerome, thought it was a mistake to add it. Since it fails the "fruits" test (the fruits of Revelations obsession have been the disastrous German Peasants' Revolt in the 16th century and the Branch Davidians standoff in Waco, to name just two) I think that is the ultimate jugement on the appropriateness of this crazy book.

gaydar girl is right. The book of Revelation was written as a comfort to Christians who were enduring persecution. Revelation is one of the more difficult books of Scripture to understand because it speaks with imagery. Imagery is not uncommon in the Bible, we need only to look to the prophecies written about Jesus that have already come to pass. Jesus is the "Lamb of God" and the "Good Shepherd" who knows his sheep. The Bible uses this imagery to convey something to us that makes sense to our senses.

Isaiah 53 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

We know that Jesus was not an actual lamb that was led before the slaugherers but that Jesus was the "sacrificial lamb" that bore the burden of our sins and made atonement for us. It is very meaningful to have these pictures in our mind, it talks directly to our hearts. When we read difficult books like Revelation we need to remember that God is the author of all scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

So when we read those difficult passages we must remember that the rest of scripture explains what it means. Other New Testament books say that the day will come quickly and that it will be like a thief in the night. We are living in the great tribulation. Take a look at all the hate towards the truths of God's Word. Now look at the book of Revelation again, the imagery it shows goes over the same thing again and again all the way through the book. Jesus is Lord and he will put an end to the Devil and all evil, he assures us that he will take his faithful servants to be with him in heaven where there will be no more weeping. Again and again Jesus is reffered to as the Lamb of God in this book. Jesus is our perfect sacrifice before God to atone for all our sins. Those who reject him can see the horrors that await him, yet those who believe in him will be saved because of the perfect sacrifice he made for us.

I reccomend reading the book written by Wayne Mueller in the Peoples Bible Series. It is put out by Northwestern Publishing. The book takes Revelation passage by passage and explains it with other scripture.

I believe Revelations is true, it really scares me. I know Jesus will come, I'm not afraid of Jesus, just the things that come before hand. I've been watching the Jim Bakker show and he talks about this all the time. I've been thinking about it allot and I'm freaked. I just want to be able to live my life and become
an old lady and die peacefully and be in Heaven with God before all the horrible stuff happens. Really though, if you think about it,some horrible things are already happening.

with all the current natural disasters, i cant help but to think that it is now, the tribulation period. places that are well out of the pacific fire ring having to face earthquakes and tsunamis. volcanoes that have laid dormant erupting, twisters and horrible storms.......
and also "nations will rise against nations" , everyone wants to test nuclear missiles now! japan, India, china, US etc......
i do feel a little scared, but i reasoned with myself (you can say that i am in denials...lol) that the second coming will be at least 30 more years from now.....
its just not something that will happen in my time, but i do fear for our children..... may God be with them

regards
