All cleaning products should be kept away from children and animals, they usually posses no threat unless they drink it. If you use it properly and allow your floor to dry then it would be very difficult for an animal to become poisoned because the amounts would be too small to cause any problem. you would have to clean your house more than 2-3 times a day and leave puddles of any chemical for an animal or child to die because they touched the floor and then put their paw or hands in their mouth. If animals and children could die from walking on top of any floor which was treated with a specific chemical then they would all be banned.

Don't know about Swiffer, in particular, but MANY cleaning agents are harmful to pets and young children. It makes sense when you think about it because they are down on the floor all the time... Touching it, licking it, or sucking on their hands/toys after touching it.
When you have pets or young children, you really need to use cleaning agents like white vinegar and water or buy the commercial brands made for that purpose. If you aren't convinced, give it a try for just a few months. What have you got to lose, and if your pets/kids have had health problems in the past, I bet you will see a difference.

I recently read that basically any household cleaning fluid can harm your small child. I have a 10 month old and would advise keeping any and all chemicals out of reach even if not explicity advised. If my son was to get in the refrigerator and drink the entire bottle of chocalate syrup it would not make him feel well. I would venture to guess swiffer cleaner is much more harmful. If your pet is the size of a small child I would use the same rule for him/her.

it has and can kill pets. The cleaner get on the pets paws and over time (from the animal walking over the floor and then cleaning themselves) it can harm the pet. Just read the ingredients label on the box or bottle, Ive looked at it before and i know that if i licked my hands after walking through that stuff id probably get sick from it after time too.
