-1.5 oz vodka
-Dash of lemon (or lime) juice

A symptoms of a hangover are caused by several different mechanisms in the body:
- Dehydration.
- Excess stomach acid.
- Alcohols other than ethanol, ketones etc.. in the drink.
- Lack of sleep.
Therefore, to tackle the hangover effectively, you need to address all of these.
Dehydration:
Alcohol is an osmotic diuretic, so, although you are "drinking" it actually dehydrates you (even beer). The way to tackle this one is obvious - ensure that you take on sufficient extra fluid to counteract the diuretic effect (and do it duing steadily during the evening rather than try to sort out the issue the following morning).
Excess stomach acid:
Alcohol stimulates gastric acid production. This coupled with the likelihood of you not having eaten much in the evening, makes gastritis and "heartburn"more likely. Alcohol is also a muscle relaxant and this includes the stomach sphincters, so acid is more likely to reflux, causing heartburn and indigestion. This can be tackled by taking an acid-suppressant.
Alcohols other than ethanol, ketones etc.. in the drink:
As a natural product during their production, many alcoholic drinks contain other small organic molecules, in small quantities. These can be responsible for some of the taste of the drink, but they also cause a headache, nausea and the like, as they are surprisingly toxic. Ethanol helps numb the feelings these cause, which explains that you don't feel the symptoms until the next day (when the ethanol has gone but the other substances are still there).
By and large, "red" or "dark" drinks contain more of these substances than "white" or "clear" drinks, (hence why red wine or port gives a shocking hangover), so avoid darker drinks.
Lack of sleep:
Alcohol is a sedative and will cause you to sleep. However, it has sedated the brain so, although you get the hours in, your brain can't do the "thinking" properly during the night and the sleep is unproductive, again, this can make you feel lousy.
So, to summarise:
- Drink plenty of (non-alcoholic) drinks or water too.
- Take an antacid, or don't drink on an empty stomch.
- Choose clear/pale drinks over dark/red drinks, or take an anti-sickness tablet and painkillers.
- Ensure that you get plenty of rest, rather than going out when you have to get up early the next day.
However, note that prevention is the key here - these measures will be much less effective if the hangover is already in progress,
Or you could just drink less...

Hangovers are widely believed to be caused by acetaldehyde, the first and most toxic poison created by alcohol metabolism. Acetaldehyde is a carcinogen also found in cigarette smoke, car exhaust and embalming fluid (hence the drinking term 'getting embalmed'). Scientists consider acetaldehyde to be more toxic than alcohol itself. Beyond hangovers, acetaldehyde has been shown to increase the risk of contracting cirrhosis of the liver, multiple forms of cancer, and even alcoholism. You can take tablets such as RU-21 which nullify the effect of Acetaldehyde, meaning you do not get 'poisoned' and therefore do not feel bad the next day. It also prevents the liver damage that can occur from too much alcohol. Allegedly!

I've always been told drinking pedialite or however it is spelled is the best cure. It's also not a bad idea to have another shot of say vodka in the morning, or gin. For whatever reason, that stabalizes your body and makes it easier to come out of the hangover. Or maybe it is just loosens you up again enough to where you don't notice the tremendous pain you are in. :)

Go for "the cure" In Ireland this means 10 more pints of Guiness, 12 whiskey's 8 cans of cider, and then, and this is a guarantee, a hangover will be the least of your worries.

Two headache pills with 2 glasses of water before bed, the next morning a shower, tomato juice, large English breakfast. Later if still hungover a bowl of 2 minute noodles with lots of chilli sauce and more headach pills - should be gone by 2 pm, if not go down to the pub again, have a few drinks and go to bed early, you will be fine the next day!

Drink a big glass of water and take asprin BEFORE you go to bed. Hangovers are usually because you are dehydrated. Yeah drinking all that liquid dehydrates you.
The next morning, I don't know of anything. I usually eat a greasy cheeseburger and that helps. People say drinking another drink helps, but I can never do that.

Bottle of Lucozade when you first wake up, followed by a gentle stroll down to your nearest greasy spoon cafe (you MUST walk for the fresh element but slowly so as not to jar your delicate head). Then order the biggest fried breakfast you can manage. By the end you will be feeling a million dollars.

The scottish drink called Irn Bru (pronounced Iron Brew)
It is a soft drink (pop) and is the perfect cure! I founf this out whilst holidaying in Scotland and a local advised me to try it!
