Steve,
To answer your question, it simply doesn't. You can search from Genesis to Revelation, and you will find no such admonishment. The apostle Paul, makes a suggestion that we do not forsake gathering together, which is the habit of some. That's it. The truth of the matter is, that what God wants from us, is a one on one, deep personal relationship, based on love and trust. There are few if any, clergy who even have this relationship with our Father, and they mislead many. God does not care if you belong to a church. Many of those who would be called the "pillars" of the church, shall not enter His kingdom. The scriptures say that many a prostitute and other sinners will enter the Kingdom before the religious hypocrites. Having said all that, there are many God loving people in the churches. For some people, church is the best place to start. It is the only place where they are even talking about God, though not always accurately. It is up to the individual, to decide if they need all that material infrastructure, to support what must ultimately be a spiritual experience. You can find God all on your own. It helps a little to read the scriptures, especially Isaiah. Some question the verity of the bible, because of the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. He is all around you. He fills all of Heaven and earth. Go to church if you think it works for you. If not, God will love you no less.

It doesn't but religion could not survive without people being preached to and having a place to worship God. You would have so many people with so many different beliefs that would conflict with each others on a much larger scale that they do today. At least a church keeps all of the beliefs on the same level because you hear it from one person. Religion to me is to subjective to be taught like it is because you can just say anything about it and people will think its true. You get a whole church full of people thinking what you say it true then you have a cult in my opinion.

It does not mention in the Bible that people need to go to church, but The church is the only place where the body of Christ is kept, and you can come in close contact with the Almighty only by visiting the church. Also the church is a Holy ground because of God's presence in the Holy Sacrament. It depends how much close you are to God, then you will realize the importance of the rules he has laid down for us to be his followers.

Wonder no more. Reference the Old Testament (Torah), Book of Exodus: The Ten Commandments. See #3, "Keep holy the Sabbath."
Or rent the movie with Charleton Heston & Yul Brenner. Pay special attention when Moses comes off the mountain with the two stone tablets. Narrator will "read" the 10 Commandments.

2 Choritnhinas 8:4 speaks of fellowship with the saints
Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love, with honor preferring one another
Also in Hebrew 10:24,25 ...not FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES
A chruch is simpy a BUILDING where belivers meet to hear and learn and study the word of God.
belivers can meet anywhere to worship God
Going to church does not make you a Christan any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. You must accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

In Jesus' regard, he said to gather, but I think he meant as family groups. He spoken against organized religion - the Pharisees. The Pharisees (the elite) at the time kept to rigid ancient laws that were out of touch with the current times and people. The laws were not just for all of the people - only for the elite.
Does any of this sound like NOW!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't. You don't have to go to church, but going to church helps one to be around others that believe the same as they do, and that will strengthen their relationship with God. Someone who does not go to church is like a coal that has been removed from the fire, it will slowly die out without the other hot coals near by.

I believe all it says is to "keep the Lord's day" or something. Going to church was created by the church, a huge money making enterprise.

Church is not a building, or a meeting time. If you are Christian, you are defined as "the church".
If you are refering to actual assemblies, we typically follow Paul's example. He writes frequently about the church. (Read any of his books in the Bible).

Heb. 10: 25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
