The test consists of a jump from a height of ten feet into pool with 8 feet of water and proceeding to the other side, a distance of 25 meters. This is done while wearing your combat uniform including BDU's, boots, helmet, gear, and carrying a rifle. It doesn't really matter how good of a swimmer you are. It is test designed to overcome fear. For all of us who have taken it, we swam, crawled, walked and belly flopped to the other side.

I do not know if it was all or just the Officers & again at Rangers.
It required jumping off "diving" board & swimming to edge with full uniform & my son said 40 lbs boots when wet (they just seemed to weigh 40 lbs), & rifle. Then they had to jump in water & remove all gear before resurfacing (not clothes just pack & etc).
The hardest (well it would have been for me) was to be blindfolded & pushed when Sgt chose into water. You had to swim to edge blindfolded. I would have trouble being blinfolded & pushed in water but not knowing when would have meant panic. You can not show any panic at all. Fortanuately all my children were lifeguards, so my son had no problems. Not everyone made it through, some made it through the 1st time & did not make it through Ranger's water survival. I guess knowing what is coming can freak you out.
