Water is the source of life. Jesus is associated with life as well.

Water is blessed by a priest and used in rituals/sacraments like Baptism, Confirmation and Annointing of the Sick.

Catholics bless themselves with Holy Water as the enter and the exit the church. It is a small reminder of our Baptisms and the life style we should be leading as decent Catholics.

I hope that helps.

"Holy Water" is used as a reminder of baptism, whether it's in the bowls near church entrances or sprinkled on the congregation at Easter mass. It is meantto call to mind the promises and beliefs of the baptism and to reaffirm those promises.

It is considered "holy" because it has been prayed over and blessed by a priest, which merely means that it has been set aside for a different, more religious purpose than those for which normal water would be used. (Like, I wouldn't recommend drinking from a baptismal font. Especially after all the nekkid babies that have been in there.)

People pretty much said it. Basically the significance of Holy Water is to physically symbolize your being baptized by the holy spirit.

Here's a verse that could credit it.

Mark 1:7-8
7 And this was [John's] message [to the Judeans after they confessed their sins and were to be baptized]: "After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.
8 baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

Catholics are mans attempt at making a religion fit his needs . They call their priests father and in the bible it says :Matthew 23:9 They have many idols around them . You'd think after Aaron made that calf out of gold that people would learn not to put idols in or around worship , but no , they put them inside and outside the church . I'm not attacking the church , I am just pointing out facts . God bless you and your family .

At a christian birth, we give the baby whats called baptism. What the pastor does is take the baby, and sprinkle water on it, using words that cleanse the baby of all sins and all sins to come.
