Actually, declaring a religion "the one and only truth" is a sure sign of a cult, and you should run fast and far from any of these.
The truth is that since all religions are based on faith (meaning no verifiable fact) and not fact, there will never be a way to determine if one is more "right" than any other.
By the time any of us know, after we are dead, it is too late to change our minds!
Clearly there are a number of testaments in this world, and each has been subject to different interpretation. The bible (or any of the other testaments for that matter) was written by humans for the purpose of teaching values and instilling a sense of order in people. That value exists regardless of whether the book was created by humans with, or without, devine intervention.
I think that it is far more important for you to find a value structure you can take to heart, and use to be the best person you can be, and to use as a guide to teach your children to be good people.
The rest is largely irrelevant. Besides, logic says that no supreme being is really going to care which church building you attend, or what kind of clothes you wear (which many creeds restrict).
IF there is to be a judgement day, then how you chose to live your life, how kind and supportive you were to other people, how hard you tried to teach and guide your children to be good, productive adults, and how you gave back to the community would be the criteria by which you will be judged.
Keep in mind that religion is in your heart and mind, but churches are the creations of man.

This is a GREAT QUESTION!
We live in a society that has almost totally abandoned higher thinking. Like children, we just loves phrases like, "that's not what I choose to believe," as if reality is somehow altered by our opinions of it.
First, is TRUTH real or is it relative?
Well, people who believe they can fly and believe it so totally that they jump off buildings -- they go "splat!" and DIE. Their opinion doesn't save them from reality. Gravity is an ABSOLUTE TRUTH, no matter what we think of it, no matter what we believe to the contrary. Thus reality is not relative to our perspective. Truth does not depend upon our belief. Truth is real. We have countless absolute proofs of absolute truth all around us.
Next, origins. Let Carl Sagan debate speculate whatever he likes, but through logic alone we KNOW that God is real and that we as humans did not invent God. It is a simple matter of observation, the world is ordered in ways that we could not have ordered it. Seasons follow seasons, dogs beget dogs EVERY TIME they produce young -- not even occassionally producing sheep or ducks, DNA has a mathematical systemic nature, as does everything else in the universe -- In short, the universe is ORDERED, not chaotic, not random. God is thus real. Creation cannot be avoided, regardless of what method we may suspect or WHO we may believe did it.
So, religion -- EVERY religion must begin with a premise founded upon that reality, that Someone did create the universe in order for it to be ordered. As such, that Someone only reasonably has opinions of Their own.
Our modern society has adopted Taoism as its popular religion. Taoism teaches that your "reality" may be different from mine. As demonstrated, reality is a constant -- it does NOT change based upon our diverse perspectives. A Taoist will die if you shoot him -- even if he believes that the gun is not there.
Taoism also teaches that all noble paths of religion lead to the same "truth." But how can this be, when one of these paths so blatantly contradicts all the others? Jesus says, "I am the way, the TRUTH and the life. None shall come to the Father but through me."
So, our popular shared belief system is a form of Taosism and Taoism is blatantly flawed in both its observation of the physical universe and its supposition of religion.
There are roughly 700 different world religions -- many thousands if you divide them into sects and denominations, but roughly 700 if you are only identifying root philosophies. However, of those 700+ religions, only one of them says that it is the ONLY way. All the others borrow some aspect of Taoism in order to not conflict too terribly with the others. Human beings are the ones who cannot get along and kill each other over differing religious ideas, but the religions themselves all generally have some form of systemic "loophole" that allows for the possibility of a different path than its own.
Christianity is the only exception. Only in Christianity does the central figure stand up and say, "No, ALL other paths are false -- ONLY this way is correct."
That is a logical reason alone to investigate Christianity.
Obviously this topic could be explored for many pages. Here is a link to a good movie you can watch online for free. You will find that it presents evidence and not dogma and relativistic opinion.

There is on humanity and one universe and one society, thus there is one absolute truth. I do not claim to be in possession of it, however, this truth does not necessarily spawn religions. I would argue to the contrary, that emotion is at the core of religions. Some of the things taught by religion require the absence of rational thought in order to be believed. Miracles, heaven, hell, all are evokers of emotion after which you may teach any off the wall thing and be more likely to get away with it.

Religious truth is absolute - absolute nonsense.
In the realm of the rational, the concept of truth is not quite as straightforward as it might seem at first. Best guide in getting towards truth is this test - can it be verified in the real world. All else is just speculation.

Religious truth can be based on truth. But all truth has been found to be that by examination. All religious leaders have claimed to know the truth save one, Jesus Christ said" I am the truth". We cannot fully know esoteric truth. Religious belief can be based on a different qualifier. Try testing the spirits of each.

This is an interesting question in a society that has for the most part abandoned the truth. Can the church really do without truth? Can we not have good families without the truth of God's Word? Paul says in Titus 1:1 that both faith and truth lead to godliness. Truth cannot be separated from godliness. For this reason, and many others, we will speak on the importance and relationship of truth to godly living.
Our society has discarded truth and godliness. Truth has been replaced in this secularistic society with multicultural values. Godliness has become tolerance. We have before us two kingdoms: the Kingdom of Man and Kingdom of God. In order to be a good and accepted citizen of God's kingdom, we need to allow the truth of God to thoroughly shape our thoughts and order of life.
Here are some passages to ponder with:
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." (John 14:6, NASB)
Lovingkindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth springs from the earth; And righteousness looks down from heaven. (Psalm 85:10-11)
While the world portrays absolute truth as an interference in life, truth, rightly understood is the path of life. When anyone steps out of truth's reach in their lives, they are stepping into a horrible pool of uncertainty and destruction.
TRUTH is the eternal principles of God embedded in the physical and spiritual worlds He has made.
You cannot find truth in any religion, it is man made, that's why they always says we're the true religion. All religion is mixing the truth with the lies and the lies with the truth. meaning to say "Human wisdom"
The nature of the Truth is not deception, for sure. or should we say, we must ask what is this message of truth? The truth is in Jesus. If your know Jesus, the truth shall set you free. When the truth is preached Jesus is preached. If we find Jesus, We have found the truth.
Falsehood is a pretend world for the purpose of manipulation and concealing. The evil one gains power by falsehood. He counters God's truth and through devious means steals power and recognition. He did it in the garden and still does it today. His nature is to lie. This is the exact opposite to Christ Jesus who is truth. God will never lead us in a way that requires deception. Truth is one firm pillar in discerning God's will for our lives.
Truth is the key component to our Christian lives. We only will grow as much as we have our lives well founded on the truth of God. We must not think truth is just doctrine. Truth includes doctrine but it also includes the doctrine on how to live! Christ not only argued God's principles but lived them out. He not only talked about sacrificial love but nobly gave Himself up for our sins. This is the reason "Speak the truth in love" is mentioned in several places including in Ephesians. Refraining from backbiting is living by the truth. God's commands are truth. We are fools to ignore them.
The truth of God is powerful. Once it enters our lives through the Holy Spirit, we are changed in our inner souls. We become a new creature. From this new heart, we are able and desirous of being like Christ. When we speak, we will speak truth. We have put all lying away from our lives. Truth has become the foundation of our lives.
Christianity is not a religious organization, remove Christ from the Christian, what have you got? NOTHING! The life and soul of the christian is grafted in the vine which is Jesus the Truth.

There cannot be more than one truth unless it is non-contradicting, so therefore it is absolute. That's basic philosphy. Truth must be evaluated based on reality. Therefore not all religions are correct.
Note - I am Christian.

Near Death Experience research indicates that truth is not relative at all, but absolute. It has always been absolute and always will be.
