First you need to get your marriage license. This is usually at the county courthouse. Mine cost $15 I think. Then take it to the social security office and get a new card. Go to the DPS and get your name changed on your license. You will need your copy from the S.S. office at the DPS. Then go on to other places where you have credit, or utilities. Also, be sure to notify other places you get things from, like mail, magazines, etc. Go to the bank also. If you are adding your husband to your account, or you to his, make sure he comes with you. Most of these places will need to see your marriage license so keep it handy. After all this, just relax. If you forgot anything, you will find out soon. I forgot to change one of my credit cards.
Hope this helps and congratulations!

Take the paperwork you got from the minister who married you to the local Social Security office and fill out a Change of Name and Request for New SS Card form. Once the new name is on your ss card, go to the DMV and get your license changed ($15 fee where i live in California). After that, use your new ID to change your name on other documents like bank accounts and such. Congrats on your marriage!

I'm going through it now and it varies from state to state, go to your state's website and see what they require for your certificate and identification. In Maine we have to pay $10 to even receive the certificate then go to the SS office, DMV, bank, insurance, payroll at your job (they will need a new social security card), and 401K or loans etc. It's a process but it will eventually happen!

We went to the socail security office, DMV, bank, insurance, work, and any bills that is in your name. You find out along the way where your old name is and change it. (Make sure you practice writing your new name first because you sign it a lot, the first place we went it was really hard I had practiced a few times but not enough to be used to it) of course after being married for 3 weeks it is still weird to sign my new name.

First, you go to the social security office (with your marriage certificate)...they will get you a new ss card, but it takes about 7-10 business days to get...once you get that, you can change your license. You can usually change your utilities over the phone (no need for the new ss card), credit cards, etc. You have to change everything yourself. No one place takes of it for you.

Anything that has your name on it will need to be updated.

start with your drivers license...your social security card...any other type of id that you have...
you can call your local drivers license station..or look online.see what documents you need..
same with social security card..I think you take a copy of your marriage license by there and they'll do a new card..
