when typing i dont understand the need to shorten words...for instance why ne instead of any...it's only one more letter...and i could go on and on about it but you get the picture....WHY? what's the purpose...i find that a lot of times the idea of the question or answer is lost in translation.

i know what you mean, and it is a little annoying after a while, i think it's purpose is to make typing go faster. Like, in Instant Messenger most people use shorthand so they can talk more or something. I have instant messenger and i don't use very much shorthand, only certain words. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's what i think

Gotta love the internet generation don't ya? It is annoying. It just shows us how lazy a person really is. I've seen some of the kids I watch using "short hand" while they're talking to their friends on the computer, they actually type SLOWER than they do when using whole words!! And it takes a lot more effort! Funny huh?? Kids... they're going to do what they're going to do...

Only because this generation is completely lazy and think that if they can type shorter it will make things less complicated, but in reality it takes longer to learn shorthand than to just type it out.

I don't know if it is being lazy or a crude attempt to be cool. It, also, could be that none of them made it through the first round of their school's spelling bee.

It's faster. A problem if you don't understand the short version.
