I think that I am totally addicted to diet soda, and have been eating very very healthy lately, and have been exercizing and everything. The only thing is that I am GAINING WEIGHT!!! Is the diet soda making me fatter? I think that it is. I also think that it is making me bloated and retain water.

I only see fat people drink diet soda.

So, does anyone know anything about diet soda addiction? and what about diet actually making you gain weight?

First of all, as previously stated, diet soda will not make you fat. You may retain water but that is easily lost as well. There are no calories in the soda so you are not storing anything in your body.

The reason that you are gaining weight is because your exercising is building muscle mass. Muscle weighs a lot more then fat so even though you are trimming up, you stay the same weight or gain some.

I had the reverse effect after high school because I stopped playing sports. I kept weighing myself and was happy because I wasn't really gaining weight but I couldn't figure our why I wasn't fitting into all my "skinny" clothes. Now, I'm going to have to reverse this and start building more muscle and get rid of the fat.

You're on a good start though, healthy eating and exercise will get you where you want to be. Good Luck.

Who knows..there is a report out now that says diet soda can be just as bad as regular soda and that people who drink only diet don't lose weight any faster even with a healthy diet and exercise. but I am totally addicted to diet soda and if it really made you gain weight, I'd make Jabba the Hutt look anorexic!! *and I assure you, I DON'T!! :D*

But diet soda *or any soda* can gloat you for a while because of the gas in the carbination*

I also drink diet soda because I'm on a diet. I don't think that it makes you fat. I am seeing a doctor who is a specialist in weight control, she tells me not to exceed no more than 3 diet cokes a day. I have lost more than 10 pounds in a month. Good Luck!

No, I've been addicted to Diet Coke for years, and I'm still a healthy weight. As long as you keep drinking water in addition to the soda, you should be fine!

There is no fat in diet soda. There are no carbohydrates in diet soda. More often than not, diet soda has zero calories. Therefore diet soda CANNOT make you fat.

Take a lot at all the OTHER things that you are eating, drinking and not doing.

Diet soda can be addictive due to it's caffeine. As far as 'making you fat', that can't happen as it has no fat or calories. It does, however, contain sodium which can lead to water retention. I suspect that you observe only fat people consuming diet soda beacuse they feel as if they are offsetting their horrible eating habits with 'diet' soda.

No. Diet soda has only 1 or 0 calories. Overweight people are eating other things as well as diet sodas that are impacting their weight.

That said, water is clearly better for you.

I don't know about that, but I do know it doesn't help with potassium and calcium levels in your body. Often it makes it harder to heal from injury and tissue repair.

Given a choice, I'd drink water.

Diet soda doesn't make you fat but it is terrible on your teeth. I knew a diabetic who only drank it and it practically made her teeth fall out they are so brown.

diet soda is harder for your system to digest than regular soda, because it has additives in it like aspertame (which is seriously unhealthy for you)
