As of July 11th, 1 British Pound = 69.74742 Thai Baht. You can find out currency conversion rates at http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic.

As for how much it would cost to stay in Thailand for a month, it totally depends on what you want to do, where you want to stay and what level of comfort you want to enjoy.

As an example, I'm staying at a very nice upscale hotel in Bangkok for about US$200/night. However, when I stayed in Bangkok a couple of years ago with friends who were on a major budget, we found a decent room (no ac but a fan) for US$8/night.

Food is inexpensive, traveling around is cheap and there are great beaches where you can live in a nice little "hut" for US$5-10/night. Beer: cheap too.

You need to do some good advance researching. Best place to start if you're on a budget is www.lonelyplanet.com. They have great info about what to see and where to go. They also have blogs from people doing what you do -- so you can find out what other people did to stay a month at a reasonable rate.

A great site for finding hotels is www.asiawebdirect.com. They also have guides and forums for some of the bigger destinations in Thailand. Bottom line, if you want to go cheap, you can probably live pretty decently for way under US$40-50/day. Enjoy!

This is a great currency exchange site.

How much money you'll need is entirely up to you. What do you plan on doing there? Where will you stay? At a hotel or with a friend? Thailand is considered cheap by some standards but you still need to make a budget and have some kind of plan.

Which part of Thailand do you plan to stay? In Bangkok, 60 pounds a day will get you a nice 3-star hotel including all meals. Outside of Bangkok, it can be less, even down to 40 pounds a day.

If you want to live it up in resorts or 5-star hotels, then budget 110 pounds a day.
