It may not be OCD! Just a preference.. if you find that it takes over your life.. (for example always having an even number of things in a drawer.. etc.. ) then you might want to get some help.

It's easy to say something like OCD or at least OCD traits for something like this, but quite a few people actually DO have preferences for even or odd numbers when counting things; it's not necessarily an indication that something is wrong--unless things that aren't even happen to also ruin your day or mood.

In general, people tend to prefer even numbers simply because numbers have a long history of "psychological significance." Even numbers are more apt to represent things such as closure or completion, while odd numbers may imply something along the lines of "to be continued." Number superstitions may come into play as well. Again, even numbers are likely to represent positive things, while odd numbers (with the exceptions of 3, and 7) would represent something either not so positive or just flat out incomplete. It's how the human brain works, and wanting things to come out even (or odd) probably means nothing more than a subconscious awareness of the way things are counted/categorized anyway.

I know people with OCD and yes, it's important that certain number-patterns either come up or don't. But most people basically tend to go for even numbers (or odd numbers) as simply a way of "rounding off."

As for me, I have a preference for the number 8 or multiples of 8. I don't need for things to count out to eight or some multiple of it, but I do tend to remember things in 8s quite clearly. I once thought it was indicative of a mental problem, until I looked back and realized that in my earliest childhood, I always counted things on my fingers without counting my thumbs and though I grew out of that habit, I'd trained my brain to group things by 8.

Here's the thing. Psychologists in America create disorders. They call this one in particular OCD(Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) in that case I have it and so does everyone else in the world. It is what makes us different. It is basically like a pet peeve. Everyone has something they really do different. I have that even thing too but I wouldn't worry about it. It is like saying your kid has ADD. That is some crap disorder they made up in the 80's. If it didn't exist when I was a kid, then guess what its total crap. Back then they would just call your kid antsy and they'd slap it out of you(discipline). I wouldn't give it a second thought if I were you.

You know - I always want odds. but I do not have OCD - and you may not either.

OCD (I was checked for this) only gets diagnosed if it interferes with your normal daily routines. Does an odd number mean you can't sleep, eat, or get to school or work ontime?

If not, it's just one of those things - like the side of the bed you feel like you have to sleep on. Bet if we told those people they had OCD they wouldn't be so apt to throw out OCD as an answer.

You may be perfectly normal, and just have a preference (or habit) for even numbers! If you believe in luck, or astrology, etc., numbers mean a lot of things.

No way is it a disorder!! I do it too all the time! it just that your probably an organzied person and thinking that there should be things in the right places, whereas numbers, having two parts can fit together better, and it's also much easier to do mathematics with even numbers.

It's a symptom of Obssesive-Compulsive Disorder.
Don't worry, everybody has mild forms of psychological disorders.
However, if you feel this is disrupting your daily life, or you feel is more serious than just "a mild form", or you just feel unhappy and depressed in any way, you should seek psychological counseling. It never hurts, even if you are completely sane, it can be very useful for your life.

unfortunately, it does sound like a bit of an OCD, however a very mild one. Don't worry about it unless it messes with you when it turns out odd. If it's just something you prefer, relax. If HAS to be, you might need therapy/meds.

Yes, it does sound like a O.C.D. However, don't fear, if you can survive with odd numbered things you are okay. I have OCD. It just means, that for some reason, you like things to always have a pair.
