Medical research has found that smoking is a major contributing factor towards many human health problems, especially lung cancer, emphysema, cardiovascular disease, and other disorders. The actual extent of the damage caused by smoking is contested, but it has been found that many of the researchers reporting fewer problems receive funding indirectly from the tobacco industry. Tobacco industry documents, which are now available on the internet following litigation in the USA, show a carefully orchestrated campaign, designed to discredit the scientific evidence for the link between tobacco and death and disease. In recent years and in many countries tobacco advertising has been regulated or restricted. In some countries smoking bans have come into effect.

There is nothing really positive to say about smoking. It is the cause of a lot of diseases like cancer, asthma and emphysema, and it generally isn't very sexy! 10 sticks a day is what I would concider a moderate smoker, but it is more then enough to give your friend serious health problems and reduce his physical capacity. You should try to get him to quit, and you should definalely not expose yourself to second hand smoke.
Good Luck!

Thats okay, I know a 10 year old who smokes two packs a day. I honest to god saw her and assumed she was a midget.
But people smoke alot now-a-days and hopefully this stupid "fad" will extinguish itself.
[Also, its illegal for a minor to smoke. Talk to his parents and if that doesn't work, talk to your school authorities and then talk to the poliece]. You may not want to get your friend in trouble but with the school and poliece you will be completely anoymous and its best for your friend.
