MEXICO CITY - Five Mexican children were killed when a large metal cross they were praying at was struck by lightning in central Mexico, local media reported Monday.
Five children between 9 and 16 years old died and several others suffered burns when lightning struck a white-painted metal cross set on a hill in the town of Santa Maria del Rio early on Sunday, according to two newspaper reports.
“The lightning went straight into them and killed them instantly,” local Red Cross chief Eduardo Suarez told the daily El Norte.

I have never ever witnessed anybody to be helped by the non-existent things which dont even know that they dont exist at all coz they dont exist. For example your God is an extension of your imagination. How she would know that she existed even in your imagination. Hit your head into a wall. Maybe your brain will start functioning but be careful dont kill yourself. Life is a precious thing. May your imaginary God be squezed under the stone which she created to lift

Yes, I believe God wants us to be Christian. FYI, about 20 years ago, an Assembly of God church about a half mile from me had the cross atop of the steeple struck by lightning. I actually held that cross in my hands after it was struck. Think about it. The tallest thing for about three fourths of a mile around, a metal object high in the air.
On July 15, 2003 during a hurricane, lightning struck and destroyed the steeple of a Baptist church about 300 yards from me. Once again, the highest point in that area. Lightning goes for the path of least resistance. Do you remember last year when several Boy Scouts and leaders were struck and killed by lightning during the annual Boy Scout Jamboree?
Just a couple of months ago, as read on Yahoo news via Reuters, a herd of 70 goats were killed when lightning struck the tree they were under for shelter from a severe thunderstorm. The goat-herder was spared. Because he was sitting under a different tree.
To be Christian means somebody who believes that Jesus Christ was sent to the world by God to save humanity, and who tries to follow his teachings and example
O.K., that makes me a Christian. But I don't blame God for everything bad that happens in this world. The best way that I can explain that one is to read, in the Holy Bible, the book of Job.
Now, I'm gonna go make me a breakfast taco. Potato, egg and cheese with a couple of jalapenos on the side. I'll be back in a little while. Anybody wanna place an order?

Of course God wants everyone to be a follower of His Son, Jesus Christ (aka - become a Christian).
It's extremely sad that those children were hurt and died.
But God didn't create the metal cross that attracted the lightning bolt, and God surely didn't lead anyone to pray at a metal cross during a lightning storm.

Therein is a fundamental arguement against all Religions. What does God really want from us? Believe in me...simple, right? Humanity asked the additional question: How do I believe--God really didn't provide a cleaar answer. His not clearly answering gave rise to Religion. Instead of just believing there had to be a structure and at least some agreement on HOW to believe so people of like beliefs got together and formed Religions. Did God really want that? Always remember that through out History Religion and belief systems caused more wars than anything else. Would God have wanted it that way? If there is a God than simply believe and that should be sufficient...THERE IS NO NEED FOR RELIGION! Check out WWW.UUA.ORG!

God's desire is to have fellowship with us, His loving creations. There are tragedies in all walks of life but it is interesting when instances such as this happens the entire viability of the faith, Christianity, is called into question. That would be like saying God didn't like Jazz or the mayor of New Orleans and that was the reason for the disaster there.
Other than the fact that it was a cross there is no illustration in this occurrence to illustrate whether God wants us to be Christian or not. Are you implying He might prefer non-Christians? Those who do not support His son, whom He Himself sent to die for our salvation?
Of course, the last place to stand when there is a storm, no matter how light, is next to a large, elevated metal object.

God wants you to be a Christian, of course.
Satan does not want you to be a Christian.
Some times wisdom will require a person not to stand by anything--large, metal in a lightning storm.

No--or at least not according to most Christians' definition ("nominally Christian" seems somewhat more acceptable, as that's what my upbringing was, and I think you can be nominally Christian but essentially a freethinker in your personal philosophy). My gut tells me that any religion whose main tenet is self-denial would be degrading to me. If there were a god who created me in his image, then he must have created me with wants and needs in addition to my free will--after all, if god cares whether or not I believe in and/or honor him, then he has wants and needs too! I have no interest in "denying myself and taking up my cross." Our life on this earth is the only life we know we have, so why compromise the quality of it?

Well if there is lightening and you are near a large metal device and electricity is attracted/transmitted through metallic objects then of course they are going to get hit by lightening. Just the other day this boy was listening to his iPod outside when there was thunder and he got hit by lightening...does that mean that God does not want us to listen to iPods?...

first of all jesus didn't die on a cross...but on a stake....
another thing is that nature doesn't have to do with God...
God doesn't need us....we need him to keep living
God doesn't want everyone to become a christian..but to live according to God's commands and show appreciation for what he has done for all humankind....
To be a christian...means to live different than the rest of the world....not doing what is wrong, not practicing what is bad....
