To make it more clearer:

Do I have to claim my luggage on Atlanta or it goes directly to the Airplane that brings to Chicago?

I live in Florida.

If you booked your flights as a single trip, then your luggage tags will read Chicago (you'll see that when you check in your bags at the airport), regardless of where you change planes. That is, if you booked a flight from your home airport to Chicago though the same airline, and paid a single fare for the whole trip (each way), then you don't have to worry about your luggage.

The only way you'd have to claim your bags in Atlanta is if you booked a trip to Atlanta, and then a separate flight on another airline from Atlanta to Chicago.

They should transfer them to the plane taking you to Chicago when you land in Atlanta. Ask when you get your boarding passes to make sure. Sometimes a bag will get put on the wrong plane ( i had a bag go to NJ instead of Chicago last week), but most of the time there will be no problem.
