you should have posted this in mathamatics
suppose they have 2 litters a year of 5 kittens each litter = after year one you have 12 cats.. now each pair of 2 has 2 litters of 5 kittens
6 pairs x 10 kitten = the original 6 = 66
ok thats 33 pairs so year 3 is 33 x 10 +66 =396
year 4 =198 pairs x 10 kittens born + 396 = 2376
year 5 = 1188 pairs x 10 kittens + 2376 = 14256
so assuming each year you get 2 litters averaging 5 kittens per litter you would have 14256 cats and kittens after 5 years.... whoa thats alot of cat litter!!!

The Humane Society of the US says that after 7 years you will have 420,000 cats. I don't know why they picked 7 years and they don't show their work so I can't check it (like fun I could). This is logarithmic. (Oh listen to me.) Look at it at the start. You have two cats. Mom cat has four kittens, two girls, next time around, Mom cat and grlcats 1&2 each have litter, four cats each, two boys, two girls, ok, now Momcat. grrlcat1 and grrlcat 2 and grdgrlcat1 and grdgrlcat2 have litters, four cats each. How many cats? I figure you have 38 cats now and have been thrown out of your appartment. Get these things spayed and and nutered.

I'd say 250 or so with kittens' kittens and all that, but thankfully, I haven't tried!
