I need a new TV but there are so many different kinds now. Can't get Freeview where I live and I don't want anything really technical. Just a good looking TV with a good picture. Which do I go for and why please?

I'm looking to spend up to £850, and I'm a technophobe so wont be attaching PC etc etc. Just wasnt a good looking tv, good pic and good sound. (Actually I'd love to download movies but wouldnt know where to start. Already got a DVD Recorder so dont need one that comes in a package).

Dont fancy plasma, and not keen on wall mounted as you get the wires on show I presume...

Depends what you want .PLasma, LCD, rear projection LCD or basic tube flat screen .Now what size do you want? Big honkin 50" or modest 27-32"? What is your price range? All this stuff matters.Figure that out and shove it into the details .And wait for educated opinions .My opinion is it's better to know which brands to stay away from.

If you are in the UK then why not pop along to Ebuyer.co.uk. They do good deals on LCD TVs. A few months ago I bought a 32 inch Acer LCD HD ready TV for only £700! It's great!!! Recently I noticed they were reduced to only £600!!!
Don't worry about it being a lesser known brand. Most TV manufacturers use pretty much the same components and, just because it is a so-called "better" brand doesn't always mean it will last longer than a cheaper brand.
I got that bit of info straight from the horse's mouth...or rather a TV repair man!
And, no, I don't work for eBuyer!!!

Personally, I wouldn't touch Sony. I have had nothing but problems with their products. Samsung and Panasonic are the two that I would recommend. JVC is also a great brand for TVs.

It all depends on what you're looking for, how much you want to spend, and what features you would be actively seeking (PIP, Flatscreen, etc. etc.)

Good luck!

Sanyo and I love their VCR/DVD also because you can program to delete bad words. Is good if you have kids.
