I want to get a poodle, but he wants to get a wiener dog. I really really really want a poodle. I would even get a mini poodle because he doesnt like big dogs. I am very responsible about pets and even have a sucssful petsitting buisness. How do I cionvince him to let me get a poodle?

Actually a poodle is the wiser choice for the following reasons:

they don't shed

they are intelligent and easily trainable

they come in various sizes from standard, to miniature to teacup

they do not have genetic medical problems

Dachsunds...or wiener dogs on the other hand

shed
are prone to ear infections
are prone to bone displaysias due to the awkward way their weight is distributed
are not easily trainable
must be picked up and carried into and out of vehicles because they really can't be jumping in

Do research, use logic. Good Luck. I think a poodle is truly the wiser choice.

My reccomendation is to wait until you're on your own and then get what you want. My other reccomendation is that you take a step back and realize that having a dog is very similar to having a child in the fact that you need to be there with it VERY often and can't just come and go as you please becuase you need to think about your dogs needs as well. Be sure that it's something you're ready to put the time into before you just go and get one because it's "sooo cute" or because your friend has one or if it's just the lastest trend or idea for you. SO many dogs get abandoned or sent to the shelter every year because some people think that they have to have a dog and realize that it's not all it's cracked up to be. If it's something you're ready for though, wait until you can pick out what you want.

Remind him that poodles have hair, not fur, and thus, don't shed much. Also, poodles are smarter and more trainable than dacshunds. Best of all, a miniature poodle is less prone to back problems than a 'wiener' dog. Poodles are healthy, clean, long lived little dogs.

It's not that he won't let you get a dog, you just don't want the breed he wants. You could tell him that poodles don't shed, that might change his mind. If not, get the "wiener dog." You will love it!

You can get the breed you want when you get out on your own.

A weiner dog is still a DOG, plus they're better than poodles. You can train them to get your chips like on the TV show Norm.

How successful can you be in a petsitting "business" if you still live with your parent(s)?

Nevermind.

I would just honor your father. If he says no, then let it be. Or here's an idea. Find someone who has bred a weiner dog with a poodle.

What would that be, then? A pooner? Weidle?

well his house his rules. But few points of interest. Weiner dogs have back trouble, shed and have a funky smell. Poodles dont shed have no dander but are yappy. So weigh the pros and cons of the 2

Sit down with him and rationally discuss his reasons for wanting the breed of dog he wants and present your reasons. "I really want it" isn't enough. Come up with some valid reasons. See if you can work out a compromise. Maybe a mixed breed of the two?

Good luck!

Anybody you know that has a toy poodle? Borrow him/her and do a trial run. Maybe he will change his mind. Good luck.

Give him other reasons why he should let you have a poodle instead, I guess.
