It's a process of retraining yourself. Like one other person said if you eat out of habit or boredom, find another activity to do.
Also, schedule when you can eat, monitor your portions, count your calories versus your energy,
Most nutritionists suggest you eat about every 2-3 hours, but much smaller than your usual meal. Make the calories count with healthier choices. Drinking a glass of milk with your meals helps fill you up quicker and it's now shown to help with weight issues. Don't just switch to mostly fruits and vegetables b/c they won't stay with you long. Try finding good carbs.

Drink water at room temperature or diet Green tea. Get up talk a small walk. East a carrot or celery stick or two. These keep the "hunger gene" relaxed.

A lot of people eat due to being bored, try to take up a hobby to take your mind off of eating, this does not include television as there are to many fast food commercials.

water doesnt work for me. caffiene (tea or coffee) or if it's night time and you are having a craving, just go to sleep!
