When fishing from a boat who is familiar with the figure eight technique once the lure is nearing the boat which entices a strike from the predator. Have you tried it, and did it work for you. Tell us your story what kind of fish was it.

The figure 8 method works well for northern pike as well as muskie. If you have one follow your lure to the boat, stop reeling when you have about 3 to 4 feet of line out, keeping the lure in the water at all times. Dip the rod tip in to the water and make a large figure 8 pattern. It is a good idea to do this as fast as you can. It works best when using a spinner type bait such as a Mepps muskie killer. Even if it appears that the fish is gone, still try it. Work the figure 8 for at least a minute or two before recasting. I have had good luck doing this and im sure you will too with a little practice.

The figure eight method that i have used is like this. I use it for Snook fishing from bridges in south Florida and it is very effective.
I use a Zara Spook lure , a short, stiff Bamboo rod, about 6 foot long. a wire leader and 80lb test line. Just work the lure in a figure eight pattern over the Snook and it will not be long before one strikes, The fish will literally explode out of the water when hooked. A very exciting way to fish as you see the fish heading for the strike. Many times I have jerked before the fish even got to the lure.

I use this when fishing for muskie - have only had result once - a near miss by a big fish and he still didn't strike until I pulled the bait out of the water - exciting moment though - thought I was going to have a40 inch fish in my face. One other time I had a fish follow the bait to the boat but he left when he saw the boat before I could start the figure 8.
