Earth has some rage against Christianity, but he consistently makes good points that make people think/respond.

You, on the other hand, are writing about schlongs.

Maybe he's a friend of yours, and this is your way of making fun of him. If that's the case, cool.

Otherwise, perhaps you should join his side. God knows you need to stick together, especially at this site, where every fourth person is sure you're going to hell.

Peace.

Luke 18.10-14
He sound just like these Pharesee

The reason for telling this parable is stated in verse 9: "To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable.."

Jesus uses two extremely different types of people in the parable. The Pharisee represented the epitome in Judaic religion. To be a Pharisee in good standing was thought to be the ultimate accomplishment in righteousness.

On the other hand, Jesus contrasts the Pharisee with a tax collector. These people were hated by the Jews. They were collaborators with the enemy. Most of them were thieves. They used their position and power to overcharge taxes for their own personal enrichment. Sort of like a televangelist scaring everyone into buying his books and generators in preparation for Y2K, yes? But, the tax collectors were Jews. The Romans were experts in using natives to do their dirty work in each area they conquered.

We take both of these men at face value, for Jesus gives us no reason not to. The Pharisee listed his attributes and "righteousness": He fasted twice a week, gave a tenth of all he got, did not steal, did not do evil, did not commit adultery. However, the Pharisee was crediting himself, and he specifically looked down upon the tax collector.

Now we are permitted to listen in on the tax collector. His head is bowed. No pride in him. He is crushed by knowledge of his own sinfulness. He beats on his own chest, in sorrow for what he has become. He simply asks God for mercy upon his sinfulness.

Jesus makes it clear that it is the tax collector, not the Pharisee, who was justified by God. Why? Because of the method of prayer? No. The tax collector did not try to find even ONE thing good in himself. He knew that the only hope for him would be from God Himself. Therefore he pleaded for mercy.

One denomination proclaims the purity of its doctrine. Another doctrine proclaims the crowds that come to their churches. Another denomination touts the "signs and wonders". Still another points to how long they have been in existence and the size of their cathedrals. Each looks down upon the other. Each claiming to have the inside track because of some special attribute they have developed. Who developed that attribute? God? No, it was man.

One should be able to hear Jesus saying:

"For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." (verse 14b)

Interestingly enough, one who truly humbles himself never expects to be exalted! Their real concern is to be reconciled with God and to rest in His glory. May we learn humility which pleases God.
