It is horriable that there are so many dogs in shelters. Most of those were bred by backyard breeders and bought by people who did not do any research first and many of which should not have had a dog to begin with.
No longer breeding dogs is not the answer. The answer is the breeding of dogs by GOOD breeders. If you breed, you take LIFELONG responsibility for all puppies you preduce and it is stated in the contract the buyer signs that the puppy/dog will be returned to the breeder if they must ever part with the dog. Also microchipping the puppies before selling them and having the breeder listed as the alternate contact will help trace the dog back to the breeder.
Also breeding means you are available 24/7 to all puppy buyers FOREVER. When they need training help, the dog gets sick, any questions can get answered BEFORE it becomes a problem that would cause the dog to be given back.
Breeding means you do ALL health checks on the breeding stock and guarantee the health of the puppies. You do Puppy Aptitude Testing to place the right puppy with the right home.
Breeding means you turn down a LOT of buyers that will PAY because they are not the right home. It may even mean keeping a puppy or 2 longer than you want just to find the right home. It may even mean taking less money to get THE right home for the pup.
There is a lot to breeding beyond knowing the pedigrees and genetics and the breed standard!!!!!!! Once you produce puppies, you have made a lifelong commitment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah!! Once you start breeding, vacation will consist of a trip to a dog show cluster or a trip to check out a litter of puppies or a prospective stud. IF you can get your spouse to watch the dogs or get a dog sitter which cost a TON!!! There are no more "vacations"!!!!!!!!!!! You have the dogs to worry about and no $$ to go!!!!!!!

There are 15 dog born to every one human born. For all the dogs born to have a home every person would have to own 15 dogs. Person, not family. A family of 4 would have to own 60 dogs. Why do you want to contribute to the gross overpopulation problem?
Number of animal shelters in the United States:
Between 4,000 and 6,000 (HSUS estimate)
Percentage of dogs in shelters who are purebred:
25% (HSUS estimate)
Average number of litters a fertile dog can produce in one year: 2
Average number of puppies in a canine litter: 6-10
In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs.
Most people are surprised to learn that we have a very large pet overpopulation problem here in the United States. There are so many animals born DAILY that it boggles the mind! This is a nightmare problem that doesn’t ever seem to get better. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that there are over 70,000 puppies and kittens born every twenty-four hours. That is a whole lot of babies! To even attempt to place those numbers of animals is impossible. The sad fact is that just is not possible to place them all.
Every year over 20 million animals end up in a shelter. Over 15 million of them are killed (euthanized is the nice term). Of those animals 61% of the dogs and 75% of the cats are killed. Very few of these are claimed and there are many more that die from disease, starvation, animal attacks and cars! Anyone who sees these facts must agree that not neutering an animal is contributing to mass cruelty and irresponsibility!

You must do your work first like reserch on the breed that you choose. You dont want a puppy farm cause there more pups out there than you know. But to make it short. My kennel cost $45,000.00 Vets cost around $200.00 each adult and pups are $100.00 each not including that you have to have there tails dock and due claws removed if that what type of breed that does that.
Also you have to shipp which cost totally around $1,000.00 each pup that is Air fair, vet Check Inc Crate and so own. If you dont have the money than I sujest that you dont breed. And dont
And it all comes out of you pocket.................

Check out the Yahoo Group called DogMentor. If you are SERIOUS about breeding quality dogs, they have a great deal of experience and knowledge to share. However, if you just want to breed your pet, or want to do it for the money they will eat you for breakfast.

I have done it was German Shep. Best advice I can give is to make sure you do not feed the mother a lot of puppy food b/c she will have runs. An to make sure they have all their shots, an sell them to good homes asap b/c they grow really fast.

Yes...DON'T!!! REALLY BAD,STUPID,WRONG IDEA!
You CANNOT make big $$$,you will ONLY contribute to the junk-dog OVER-POPULATION,You'll be dealing in LIVE ANIMALS-which WILL get sick, injured & DIE!! causing LOTZA vet bills, feed bills, cleaning & care for 24 hrs. a day,day after day, year after year,no time off for play,vacation,illness...
Got "deep pockets"??? They'll be EMPTY!
