I know everyone is telling you to look at the humane society for your puppy, which I normally would have told people that. However, I'd be very careful getting a puppy from the pound because I recently got one and she had parvo which is a very serious and highly contagious virus for puppies. I'd look for one in the newspaper. Sometimes they are even free.

RedSoxGirl is right, it's very expensive to take care of an animal, from shots to vitamins, a bed, shampoo's, flea products, if they have illness's (vet visits), my dogs have sensitive stomachs so I need to buy easily digestive dog food (it's more money) grooming supplies, getting their nails clipped, treats, collars, leash's...if you can't afford to buy a puppy...can you really afford everything else?
Also, you don't need to buy an animal...there are 1000's of dogs that need good homes (puppies too...) Go cheeck the animal shelters and adoption agencies. There are pug rescues, all sorts of things. I understand you want a chu...you may be able to find one. Keep in mind..that those dogs "need" you every bit as much as you "want" them.

At your local pound. There are a lot of good pets there that need good homes... Plus you'd be saving them from being put to sleep. I have adopted 3 pets from there over the past 4 years and all have been great. Usally just have to pay 40 bucks for them to spay or neuter!

Why does every one want a CHIHUAHUA??? They are mean little dogs with tons of problems. Check your local shelters for dogs that will be put to sleep instead of adding to the problem.

Check the Humane Society in your area. You may not find a purebred, or even a chihuahua, but you may find a friend. I once went in convinced that I wanted a malamute, but a mutt caught my eye, and we connected instantly. You'll find that you don't pick a dog--it picks you.

Animal shelter? If you can't afford to pay to buy a puppy, can you afford to take care of it?

Try petfinder, local shelter or craigslist. Even if it's free, consider thinking about how much would it cost you for vet exam, year + month shots, food cost, toys and etc.

look up a chapter of a local or national chihuahua rescue organization. You can also try your local animal shelter.

Try your local shelters. Those dogs are dying for a home.
