there is nothing wrong with foreign vehicles.....any SUV will not give you excellent gas mileage...unless you buy the toyota highlander hybrid, and it will cost you an arm and a leg for it.......how about toyota highlander, good gas mileage, powerful and midsized. I have one and it is fun to drive.

Saw a KIA SUV yesterday, must have been a Sportage I guess, pretty car, KIA's might be a a lot cheaper than a TOYOTA or HONDA because they are still a little unfamiliar to most people, they don't have the years of good reputation behind them that Honda and Toyota do. I don't have too much knowledge of them myself. They are Korean made I think, not Japanese. I hate to say it but I believe the Jap cars are better made. When the U.S. was still at the top in auto manufacturing back in the 70s and 80s and the Japs were playing catchup. American manufacturers beliving they would always be on top built a lot of crappy cars, most of them as heavy as a tank, but others just crap like the Vega, Pinto, Maverick, many more. Meanwhile the Japs were perfecting 1 or 2 front wheel models that were cheap on gas. Subaru were perfecting 4-wheel drive cars. I only buy Subarus, mainly because I live in snowy New England, have a steep driveway, a very good mechanic that specializes in them and the cars will go 200K if well taken care of. But Subaru doesn't make a real SUV. The Forester is kind of an SUV but not as rugged as the Honda and Toyota models. MAN! Look at me ranting on like I know what I'm talking about! Thats enough, one thing though the 2nd answer to your question said ask a car salesman. Never, never trust a car salesman, especially a new car salesman and that goes for the whole dealership too. Good luck. OH, you do know gas prices will continue to rise for many years to come. And SUVS are kinda heavy and not all that great on gas?

The new KIA Sportage (within the last year or two) is fine, but the older one was awful. DO NOT get the older style Sportage or you will be sorry.
Now, as to "foreign" vehicles, you are getting bad advice. The best small SUV's which are great on gas and MUCH more reliable than domestic SUV's are Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4. The Subarus are fine too, but they are not as useful or roomy inside.
Most of those people who tell you not to get a "foreign" vehicle don;t even understand the fact that Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are HIRING American workers, in America, while our own auto companies are going out of business because they make lousy cars. They are laying off American workers and closing plants. Now who's better for America?Good Luck

RAV-4 or Honda CRV...but you did not say how people you need to hold..do you need more than seating for 5? SUV's are notorious for poor gas mileage because they are heavy and have big engines. You can get hybrids - toyota highlander, ford escape or mercury mariner. Foreign vs. domestic is not the issue. Quality is. Used sportages are not a very good choice. IM me if you need more help

Gas mileage is not great in an SUV, but they are worth it. I own a Ford Explorer and I get 17-22 MPG which is not bad since it is very roomy and reliable.

imports are good. More reliable and usually a little cheaper. Remember to think about resale and if you get something used have it looked at by a professional
