If the battery won't hold a charge, it's probably time to buy a new battery. They can only be recharged so many times, then you have to buy a new one.

I had a Skil drill and the charger went bad and would only charge the battery up to about 4 or 5 volts. I bought a new battery, and the charger did the same thing to it. I deep sixed the whole thing, and bought Black and Decker

Talk to your local electronics store, not a big box type but a local guy. He may have a reconditioner. These provide about 30-40% more life to a battery that is experiencing "memory". If the battery is shot though, you can only just replace it.

Something in the battery may need change or repair, probably the alternator. I just had this problem.

if you have no other alternative but to throw it away you can try to open it up. My 14.4v Black&Decker has 12 cells connected in series. I only had to solder a broken connection & it was ok again
