On a tactical level, it had to be Paul Hausser, in particular, his exploits at the 3rd Battle of Kharkov. As commander of the II SS Panzer Corps, he beat an enemy 7 times his size.

Guderian was the "god" of tank strategy, but he was superior in a strategic sense, use of armor in massed formations and at the point of attack. His ideas helped win the Battle of France and the initial stages of Operation Barbarossa in 1941.

The top tank ace of the war falls to Michael Wittman, who's Tiger I stopped an entire division outside of Caen in 1944.

Some will say "the Desert Fox" Rommel but how can you pick one of the losers. George S.Patton was the best tank commander ever to be in charge. He knew that when attacking the German Heartland that we should've continued farther but they finally put a leash on him towards the end of WW2. What a shame for all those under Communist rule in East Germany for all those years for the Russians did exactly what he told our leaders of what they would do.

nah, none of them. It was Captain Michael Wittman, SS 101st Heavy Tank Battalion, Waffen SS.

Ok, so he was on the side of the bad guys, but he was one of the best tank commanders of history. He had a massive kill score and ripped the guts out of entire British armoured brigade on his own in Normandy in 1944

We are talking about ground level combat tactics here aren't we?

Heinz Guderian - He revolutionized mechanized warfare and could have taken the whole of Europe twice were it not for interference from frightened senior officers and politicians.

Guderian, no doubt about it he was the guy who developed some of theory around blitz attack using mechanized panzer divisions. Read his memoirs he was the best of all.
