He is called by the angle Cebrail (Gabriel) that he is a prophet at the age of 40. The first word was " Read." He replied he was illiterate. The Gabriel hug him so tight that he tought he was going to die. This happened three times. After he asked what he is going to read. The Gabriel said the full sentence.
"Yaratan Rabbının adıyla oku,
O, insanı kan pıhtısından yarattı,
Oku, Rabbin nihayetsiz kerem sahibidir.
Kalemle yazmayı öÄreten O'dur. Ä°nsana bilmediÄini O öÄretti."
I cannot translate it exactly. It is something like that "Read in the name of your creator. He created the human from a blood clot. Your creator is the owner of endless knowledge. He is who tought writing. He tougt the human that he did not know."
He was memorizing every ayet the Gabriel brings him. They were repeating at Ramadan days.
The first muslims learned it memorizing. After the death of the prophet, the director of the islam community Osman asked literets to write it down. All other copies refer to this first hand written book. You can see it in Topkapi Palace in Istanbul Turkiye.
You may think it could be changed. But Allah mentiones that he gave us this book and he is whom will protect it endlessly.

well , you know .... i have been asking that question though i am not a Muslim. but i red the book and you know what , when you read it , you feel that it is telling you stories that actual happened maybe couple of decades ago and in a way tells you story to come , so it can not be man written.... it has to be written by a more power full being ... in fact it has been collected a very long time ago... however, there are those verses that tells you about aids and that was not prevalent at the time it was written .. and it argues what a man can not predicate and when mentioned , it said , the future, what are in the wombs of women and rain ... but now we can know the gender of the child and we can now whether it will hail or not ... but i have an explanation to that , you can know the gender but you can not know how those kids will turn out to be ... you can predicates if it is going to rain Tom. but you do not know what time exactly ... it was also mentioned in that book , that iron will fly ,,, and it did , we have space shuttles and airplanes .. there is something mystic about this book ,, read it and you will know

God, but it was written down around the time of the Caliph Uthman.
By the way. Muhammed was NOT illiterate. He was a merchant which means that he must have been able to read receipts at least in Arabic and also, probably in several other languages. His friends were certainly not illiterate (certainly not Uthman, a great patron of literacy).

Interesting, the Quran as you can see is almost equivalent to Bible, and considering the writing one can not say that it is from God no;the Quran like the Bible has a history, along the line when all these hypothesis started, there is always a chance that this type os prophets or self proclaimed servants of God have a kind of secretary who follows them and write things as they see or told.
It is not fake neither is it real but the writings were for real and the contents happened just like the Bible.
I hope you are relieved with this answer.
Thanks.

Muhammed's first wife, Khadijah. I've taken several college history courses that did overviews of the origin of Islam, and they all said that Mohammed memorized the quaran as Gabriel told it to him and then recited it to his wife who copied it down.
