We have a good plan if our government would only enforce it. We have laws on the books against illegal entry.
1) Close our borders tightly, in order to get a handle on the problem.
2) Deport criminals, deport any illegal who is found trying to take advantage of ANY federally funded assistance. Deport any illegal who is caught driving without a license or insurance.
3) Prosecute any employer who hires an illegal immigrant. Jobs should be posted to give legal Americans the opportunity to apply for them.
4) Encourage illegal immigrants to go home on their own, no documentation= no welfare no job.
5) CONTROL immigration from everywhere. Make it difficult. It SHOULD be difficult. Coming here has obviously been too easy. Screen anyone coming into the USA, whether it be for a short period or to immigrate permanently.
6) Inform those coming to the USA that they WILL be swiftly imprisoned or deported if they try to rise up against our laws to demand rights they don't have and if they are found BREAKING our laws.
7) Anchor babies should not be automatically citizens unless at least one of the parents is a legal citizen. The illegal parent should go back across the border(or back to their homeland) and enter the legal way.
8) If they do not plan to assimilate they should not come here. They should give the USA their allegience and NOT their former homeland (they can still love their ancestral homeland, but their allegience should be with the USA,only)
9) Anyone or any organization who shows total hatred for this country, making hate speeches in our tax supported schools, demanding rights they don't have, protesting, burning our flag or flying it disrespectfully, spouting words encouraging a "take over" or Re Conquista" should be tried as TRAITORS or should be deported immediately.

The only reason the immigration thing has become a major issue in the last few months is so the Bush administration has a distraction from the stupid things he is doing elsewhere.

If protecting the country from immigrants is such a big problem, why don't we build a big wall, similar to the wall of China or the Berlin wall. The cost of doing such a task should not be a problem as the government doesn't seem to mind that we are already trillions of dollars in debt

There is no clear cut answer. It is caused by cultural differances. We are on a very closed economic system which includes wage controls. most of those coming here are from systems that are pure market driven and barter related. So coming here and sending the money there is a very wise choice. We also have far to much humanity for our own good. we offer free medical care by law even tho it is limited it is still cheeper and more readily available here.even tho americans want cheep fruit and veggies most arn't willing to pick them for less than min wage. they are . because they would get payed less in their home countries.I hate to say it but the only true answer is A real militarised Wall. But understand that the same wall can be used to hold you in as much as it holds others out. I have found Americans to be very willing to vote for socialists with out thinking it thru. they are gullable look at all the outrage against bush he is conservative kerry was a socialist idelogicly speaking.both he and gore have spoken openly about controling words and policing political correctness. To our paril. it all works together.

that's pie-in-the-sky wishful wondering. If machines ought to do the artwork that illegals do in agriculture and be value-effective, they could were used already. Employers will by no potential give up searching for less costly labour; fines consisting of you intend will finally end up being a cost of doing company and could be surpassed on to the buyer. If consumers were to commence paying expenditures that are larger due your crack-downs, i trust that multiple human beings ought to commence welcoming unlawful immigrants. human beings care about the almighty dollar and the awesome prognosis more suitable than something else. Having a targeted visitor-worker application is between the few semi-lifelike procedures of coping with unlawful immigration (in spite of the actual incontrovertible truth that it has had its issues in Europe) and also you rule it out categorically. the perception of forcing an organisation to change right into a detective in hiring new workers to ensure no matter if or not they're criminal or no longer is laughable--no organisation will stand for it and employers have extra clout, politically conversing, than the young ones who placed up thoughts to each and each and every of the international's issues on Yahoo solutions. Your proposals smack of the racism that infects this actual part of Yahoo solutions.

you know, maybe the reason this is such a complicated subject is that there should be no boundaries!

however, there are. like anything else it takes $$$. one thought is a process like the ones used during the great immigration. an Ellis Island? screening all candidates. this would mean physically closing the borders and making available screening stations (for lack of a better word) in strategic areas along the way.

the majority of people immigrating do so to have the opportunity to earn an income to survive.

Actually it is obvious, the powers that be just won't admit it. No not invade, but we are not able to manage the border. The only answer at this point is to "annex" or allow them to become another state, remove the border and it's financial burden, make them all American citizens, pay them "minimum wage" treat them exactly the way we treat our "minimum wagers", and offer them rolls in our military. The powers that be do not want this because you would effectively be giving them all a huge salary increase, thus removing their "cheaper labor"

We already have laws that say we should punish the people who hire illegals. If we would only enforce those laws, it would help.

I would say place the employer in prison for at least 6 months and take away the entire profit he made from hiring illegals.

If no one hired illegals, then what would be the point of them coming to the USA.

Right now there is no one answer. What we need to do is SOMETHING and then build our ideas from there. I heard the other day that one of the arguments that the southern states gave about not freeing the slaves was that the economy would collapse because no one wanted to do those jobs. Sounds familiar doesn't it. The economy didn't collapse.

American corporations operating in Mexico could pay a living wage there, so that no one needs to come to the US to make some money.
