These days, people take donations as a burden. Yes, some people still donate but they donate as the organisation promised them something in return like an attractive prize. And this defeat the purpose of donating to the society. So where is the heart of gold? I need serious views.

It's just not people on a whole, it's the charity organisations as well. They ask for a minimum payment, and a lot of people probably can't afford this minimum, meaning if you can't give us the amount we ask for then don't bother. There are people in my area, that come around selling different things for charities, I buy things of them anytime they come to my door, this one guy come's with incense and he doesn't care how much you give him for a packet of incense, because he's doing it for charity, although some people are very stingy and only give 20pence or something, and they're worth a lot more than that... last time he came I gave him £6 for 2 packs of incense, he came back with a more expensive incense and gave me it because I was so generous... Just goes to show you it's nice to be nice. Then there is also people that call around for sponserships I always give to these as well, and there are the charities that come around with just a bucket and ask you to give. And in the shop, I always tell the assistants to put my change into the charity boxes

If the organised charities didn't demand a certain amount per month, I would actually give to these charities. But unfortunatly they do, so I just give to other charities that don't demand this.

In Belfast city centre there are people all around town, trying to get you to sign up for these charities, where you have to give a certain amount every month, minimum wage here is £5.80 or something now per hour, and they get paid at least £9.50 per hour... and I know a few of these people... and do they sign up to give to these charities? The answer is no... So why do these charities expect us to give a certain amount whenever they pay these people a dreadful amount and they don't donate?

I've done personal tax returns for people. I've seen individuals donate millions of dollars to charitable organizations. You can also look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, who have each donated tens of billions of dollars for global health and education (sorry I don't know the exact number).

But, are people in general charitable? I'd hesitate, but I would say yes. I've been involved in some charitable fundraisers, and there's definetely people that will donate, even if you can tell they don't have much, and others who won't.

Someone has already said this, but there are still people donating out of the kindness of their heart. But what lead you to ask this question? Are you interested in donating? Would you to help an organization that helps world hunger?
