At the very least leave them on standby, (and the TV can be off.)

you can turn the tv off thats ok , but if your recording from the tv you need the vcr turned on , the same goes if your are recording from your digi box you need it swithched on , so leave both the box and vcr on and providing its all tuned in properly you should have no problems

TV can go off but vcr needs to be on and if recording from digi box you need to keep that on to!

if you are recording the digibox.. set "auto view" up and programme the video to record at the start time... or if your box doesnt do autoview.. just leave it on.. and set video to come on and record.. leave 5 minutes either side of programme to allow for late running... tv doesn't need to be on either way...
