I depends on what you call happiness. You could certainly manage a small apartment, a modest car, basic groceries and other necessities. If new clothes shopping, dining out, ski trips, spa memberships, golfing, etc, are important to your happiness, there wouldn't much money left over for pleasure spending.

Yes. But you need to be on the same page about money. Money fights are the number one cause of divorce in the United States.

If you are worried about this already you probably need to talk about it, seriuosly. You may want to look int pre-marital counciling.

With a budget you can live just about anywhere on that money, even with kids, but probably not with a huge house and new cars every 3 years....

absolutely. What part of Eastern US are you talking about? If you're talking about being near a big city, it is still possible. You can live in the suburbs. And there are ways to cut costs. Making 50k is really good.

Money does not equal happy.

However, 50k in most places on the eastern coast of the U.S. is a decent salary. I make just over 50k a year and live in one of the most expensive places in the country and I'm getting by.

If it's the money that makes you happy then no, 50k would never be enough. If it's your wife/husband that makes you happy then you shouldn't worry about how much money you make. You'll find a way to pay the bills.

If you equate money with happiness then no. you'll never be happy no matter where you are. The median income in some states in the eastern US falls far below that.

Yeah, that's pretty good. Some people lead a happy life with kids with a 30K salary.

I don't see why not. 50k is alright. There's people that are happy at 20k, and they have families! 50k to a couple should be fine. It won't be luxurious, but then again, luxury doesn't necessarily bring happiness either.

Yes, of course you would need to research the specific area in which you were thinking of moving...For example..houses in mass. compared to CT. are alot diferent even though they are right next to eachother...so it all depends on where you choose to settle down!
