or is this more of a perception issue?

It is producing them by the Wahhabi sect and Sunni sects, the Iranian Sufi and Shiite sects. Islamic culture has not incorporated into itself a rational aspect or a respect for reason. Thinker Averroes and algebraic mathmeticians did at one time during have a genuine respect for reason at a time the West did not, but this was rejected and ignored historically by later Muslims. All religions suggest violence and eventually require the use of force if followed absolutely or fanatically. Even the New Testament advocates violence against non-believers in Luke. Christianity reformed in the Renaissance by the thought of Thomas Aquinas. Now it causes the West to "turn the other cheek" to be passive, and so encourage war.

Its a perception issue. The main trouble is that some people believe that Islam can win over the world by violence, which is by no means mentioned in the Holy Quran as the way to treat disbelievers. War is only allowed in Islam if it is you who is offended first. Terrorism is not a way to fight a war if the Quran is assumed correctly. If Islam is followed correctly and literally then neither would there be wars nor would there be disbelievers in this life.

I would have to go on perception with this issue also. I mean, if you really want to look at religions that have caused alot of deaths, look at Catholism or Christianity through the ages. One word....crusades. You will always have fanatics in any religion that interpret things the wrong way or take everything to a level that was never really there. (Though offhand I can't recall any Buddhists that decided to storm a country or decided that any other person had to be persecuted for their beliefs.)

No religion preech to perform Terrorism.
Islam prohibited killing people. Just read about Islam's rules. You can kill when you are going to kill by someone. Thats for your self protection.
Islamic name of people would not be a muslim. Those who follow correctly all Islamic rules those will be the true muslim. All the community have good and bad peoples.
For christianity drinking alchol, prostitution, robbery is verily prohibited. But most of western countries's people not following fully. so that means chirstainty preech the bad things? no and never.
Dont see the people from community, just see rules of religion.

There are Christian and Jewish terrorists too.
The reason why you think more of Islam in this manner is because of the media which portrays Islam as violent and stuff. Other stuff doesnt even make it in the news. American media is controlled by the government, which is largely controlled by AIPAC.

It's what sells papers and keeps us glued to CNN/BBC. There are other stories going on around the world. The media is not 100% unbiased. How much are we hearing about what's going on in Myanmar, Sudan or even from Palestine, from the Arabs' point of view? Hard to know the truth.

You mean any major philosophy of the modern era! Trust me, religious killing is older than time iteself!

And it's because of politics TOWARDS their religion, not the religion itself. I mean in this country two people could both read the Bible, one who thinks that God hates gays for instance and another who believes that Jesus came to tell us the 'good news' of God's unconditional love. They both read the same book, but they drew two completely different conclusions about God's love. Welcome to the murky world of faith based warfare. Just WHO'S faith is everyone fighting for?

And in trying to determine that Islam also has the curse of perpetual infighting. You need only look at the imminent civil war in Iraq to tell that sectarian violence is commonplace under the umbrella of Islam at large.

1) perception issue
2) illiteracy
3) most muslims dont understand what Quran says(it teaches non-violence) and they go to so called "Scholars" to know the meaning. these so called "Scholars" change the meaning for their own use. So people should understand what Quran says instead of just reading the arabic text. they should read the translations. that too authenticated.
