This passage refers to circumcision as part of a covenant with God.... however the keeping of this covenant would only apply to Jews who are still waiting for the Messiah.... Christians believe that Jesus came so that the covenant in all its entirety (ie all commandments and everything we have so badly failed at) could be fulfilled... therefor it is no longer necessary fo men to be circumcised.

The one thing about the bible is you can find contradictions from the Old Testament and the New Testament.
I believe it is in Paul that states that a circumsized male will not get into Heaven. Or something to that effect.
But the interpretation of that is if you are still following the laws set before Jesus then you won't enter heaven. I'm no theologian obviously, but that's what I understand.

I'm glad you inserted the phrase, "that need this".

But recognize that for most over the age of 40, this procedure was done while they were still in the hospital after birth.

Also that this was a sign of the covenant between Yahweh and the Hebrews. No one else is obligated. Peter and Paul and the Apostles settled THAT issue a couple of millenia ago. See ACTS.

Most male children are circumcised at birth in this country. There is no mention for the need of circumcision under the new covenant with the gentiles.
Read Romans 2 through 4.

The old covenant with it's laws commanded circumcision, eye for an eye, and perfect animal blood sacrifices.

The new covenant came with the birth of God's son. Matthew chapter 5, Jesus gives us the new covenant. Quite a difference.

No contradictions, just different covenants.

It's a load of tosh really, created by some old men once upon a time.
And if you think about it, would this question need to be asked of "total believers in God and his word"? Wouldn't they have had it done already?

I'm not a descendant of Abraham. Not all Christians are decendents of Abraham, in fact most are not. Mostly the Jewish people are descendents of Abraham.

However, in the western world most males have this done at birth anyway.

Well Number one I can't have this done because I'm a woman. Number two these was taken care of be Jesus on the Cross when He said the words "It is finished" meaning the plan of salvation. .
