It's not very easy when you do it alone. But pretty basically, split all your hair, as if for two ponytails, and do with each half what you do for a single french plait. But instead of keeping the plait itself to the middle of the area from which you take hair, keep it the way you want it to go.
Best, ask somebody who can do french plaits to do you hair for you, the results are usually better.

I actually prefer the inside out french braid.
Use a comb and part your hair into two, tie one side up with a hair-tie so that you won't get any strands mixed into the other plait.
Starting at the top of your head, at the front, take 3 seperate and thin strands of hair, start to do a normal plait, once you have done the first "knot" of the plait, pick up another piece of hair and bring it into the plait. Keep doing this till the end, tie with a small hair-tie, and repeat on the other side. The effect is wicked as the plait sort of stands out, this also is the best way to get waves, especially if you do it when your hair is damp and then sleep on it. Just make sure to keep it tight, hope this helps and happy braiding! Be ready to look cute and sassy!!
P.S. I don't know if you ride or know anyone that does but it's the same plaiting that is used on horses tails, if that helps.

french plait, one or 2. 2 plaits, bunches. Get considered a spread of fairly large clips, placed your hair in a low ponytail and clip it upwards letting the hair provide way over the clip, you want a strong strong one once you've thick hair although, I easily have the same problem. you ought to attempt having your hair 1/2 up 1/2 down. i ought to say the bast thanks to regulate the way your hair seems even as that's up is to both curl/straighten it searching on your organic hair, purely to make it distinct. I easily have thick hair and its a nightmare putting my hair up properly as many of the time it would not very last very lengthy in the previous gravity takes its . A messy bun continually Works for me because it potential even as bits commence to provide way it purely promises to the end result, my chum has certainly curly hair or maybe as she does a messy bun she sort of clips the ringlets alongside the band which holds it up, its complicated to describe regardless of the indisputable fact that it seems astonishing :)

You can part the hair down the middle and braid you hair down the center of each half. Some people have a hard time braiding their own hair. You can also purchase a braiding kit that gives you a tool that will help you braid. It comes with a dvd with instructions.

Try these googled sites I found.
http://ut.essortment.com/hairplait_rmet.htm

Instructions
Place your thumbs above and slightly behind your ears. Draw them slightly back and upward, gathering hair that meets at your crown into a ponytail. Don't anchor it.
Fashion one English plait, crossing the left strand over the center so that the two strands trade places, then the right strand over the center so that those two strands trade places.
Hold the plait in your right hand, separating the three loose strands below it with your fingers. Place your left thumb above and behind your left ear and use it to draw a strand half as thick as one of the original strands towards the ponytail.
Add the newly gathered hair to the left strand and cross this increased strand over the center, taking the center strand to the left as in ordinary English braiding.

Continue gathering hair from the left and right and adding it to the strands just before you cross them over the center.
After several plaits, there will be no loose hair left to gather.
English-braid the remaining strands and fasten the end of the braid with a covered band.

Go to your hairdresser and ask her to teach you. She may have a wig or something there so you can see what you are doing, then try it on your own hair. You will get the feel of it and you won't even need to look in the mirror once you get comfortable braiding your own hair, I do it all the time.
