quality not quantity. its not how many friends, its about how many true and genuine friends you got. most of the time you can only have one true best friend. what the point of being surrounded by a lot of "friends" when you really dont have anything in common. so give time and really search for someone you can connect with. as with books, im not sure thought. coz the more you read the more you improve your fluency and comprehension. friends i can have a few but books i want to have a lot.

Well, I'm not sure how much this'll help but, as I've aged, I have realized that the quote isn't "should" but "are". I've been lucky enough to make it into my 4th decade and I can still count my true friends on one hand. Looking over at my bookshelf,(excluding texts), I have about thirty. Maybe the person is just trying to relate the importance of quality over quantity.

Good friends & books are like your eyes.That means to say in an right number,more than required unnecesarily spoils your image
