Hi
My husband & I both have Welsh roots ( I was born near The Vale of Glamorgan ) and my husband was born in West Wales. We also have countryside backgrounds and long to see the fields and smell the fresh air .How nice to hear of someone else with a bit of adventure in their souls. We moved to Scotland in 2003, we firstly lived in Edinburgh, which is probably the only city that we like. We then moved to Badcall Inchard, which is a tiny hamlet overlooking Loch Inchard and magnificent views, we were 110 miles from the nearest supermarket ! We loved it there, sadly there wasn't any work. We moved to Aberdeen in Feb 2005 and HATE it, Aberdeen is the greyest most miserable place we have ever been to and Aberdonians are the most un friendly, racist people we have ever met, no-one ever smiles or even says Good Morning ! They really have a chip on their shoulder and hate English people. There isn't one nice thing that I could say about the place. We are saving to move west towards Inverness, which is great and just to see Loch Ness again - our favourite place on Earth.
Don't worry about racists, they are just shallow idiots, there are lots of nice Scots, good and bad here the same as everywhere !
Do it but not in Aberdeen. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.
At the risk of sounding like someone from the tourism board, I'll say that Scotland has lots to offer.
Edinburgh is brilliant - it's a nice size, not too big, not too small, and within an easy drive to the countryside (1/2 an hour to East Lothian, the Borders; about 45 minutes to the beach at Gullane, Longniddry and a little bit farther to North Berwick). Plus it's only a 3 1/2 hour drive down to Manchester if you do choose to go back to visit friends.
Inverness is nice too, again within easy travel distance to the countryside.

Scottish people in general do not hate English people at all, despite mischief-making by the tabloids re. the World Cup. How could they, when many have English friends and even relatives?
There are some beautiful places in Scotland to live, work, and play. There are also some really grotty places. Same as any other country.
Come and see for yourself, you're more than welcome!

Im Scottish and have live in the North-East all my live, about 15 miles from Aberdeen. We do not hate the English, heck I married one. The education is of a very high standard, and we are a very friendly people. Housing is very reasonable, and shops are great.

If you are nice, decent people, nobody will have any problem with you. I know several English people who live in the North East of Scotland who are lovely.
It is people like the guy above that give the English the reputation they have with the Scots!

I lived in Scotland for 6 years and loved it. The people there were lovely to me. I lived in Central Scotland near Stirling. Was half and hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
