Anti-depressants make me gain weight but my doctor keeps prescribing them for my anxiety. When I spoke to her about my concerns about the weight and the fact that I don't really feel depressed, just anxious and agitated from time to time, my doctor told me that it would be OK if I take the Lexapro whenever I am having a hard time with the anxiety and if I want to take it for a week or two and then stop, that would be OK. Lexapro DOES work almost immediately on my anxiety and sometimes I take it for a few days and I feel better and then I stop and I'm OK for a few weeks. Has anyone else tried using Lexapro in this way by the advice of their doctor?

Lexapro is very effective for anxiety. I haven't heard of it used that way, but if it works quickly on your anxiety - I don't see the harm. I used it for a while for my PMS symptoms and I only used it for about a week at a time - my doctor was fine with this.

I have taken Lexapro. as far as i know it is used for an anti-depressant yes. i was only on it for two weeks though. i didnt do too good on it. i have bi-polar disorder. it helped with my depression, but it made me more manic, which bi-polar disorder is manic-depression. but if you are prescribed a medicine from your doctor, stay on it. it was made for a steady use of dose. in other words keep taking as the doctor told you each and every day. if you have problems with weight gain, (which i have had with many different medicines but now i am back on different medicines that do not make me gain wieght, and i am back to normal size.) tell your doctor, and if he doesnt do anything about it, i would go to a different doctor. there are many more medicines out there for people like you and others with mental disabilities. i hope everything works out for you...
